Default Help with Colt grip

I'm not very versed on Colt revolvers so I'm seeking info for a friend that found a set of grips that look like they might be for a Python. He's offered them to me and I have no idea what to offer.
Thanks in advance.

Hard to tell from that one photo, but they look like 3rd generation Python grips. The checkering will be on a raised portion of the grips. They could also be for a later Trooper. Photos of the inside and other side would positively ID them.

I'll post a photo of 3rd Gen Python grips in a few minutes. If those are, they're worth $250-$350. Troopers, not so much...

Yes, 3rd Gen Python target grips. Gold medallions indicate Python - usually. I would say maybe $150-200. But I don't know current pricing. You might check on Gun Broker for recent sales. High condition 1st Gen Python grips bring the big bucks, probably >$500 by now.

Thanks for the quick replies. I'll take more pics and probably try to sell them here on the Forum for him.

Yep...3rd gen Python. They'll fit E- and I-frame Colts but are correct for the Python.

They're worth up to about $250...maybe more to the right person.

Here are a couple more pics. Also he has a box that appears to be kinda rare. I'll post pics in the proper forum.

I believe those are early 3rd generation from looking at the backs. If you check that reference I sent you it details them. Don't know if that adds value, but sure can't hurt. I sold a set of later 3rd generation grips that were perfect here on the forum for $200 shipped as I recall. Ebay or such would be another $50 or more.
