If you live in one of the states/areas that allows only muzzle loader or shotgun sort of makes sense.

I am not sure they are even in the room, the box is gone. Sort of like an Aimpoint on a motar tube.

Range report please! I have seen some pretty accurate black powder shooters and wonder what the effective range is.

Folks outfit modern double action revolvers all the time and nobody blinks, but someone outfits an old single action percussion cap revolver with a scope and suddenly it's outlandish?
Granted that the Remington 1861 Navy lacks the range and power of a modern magnum revolver, but it was still known for having great accuracy, range, and power for its time, and it could easily be used for hunting to this very day.
Admittedly, it does look a bit strange though.

I can just imagine cleaning the black powder and bullet lube off of the lenses of that scope.

I wondered aloud what an appropriate moniker would be for someone that showed up at a Cowboy Action event with such a contraption? "The Gecko Kid" comes to mind.
Outlandish....yes, an appropriate adjective. A shoulder holster should be mandatory for such a weapon, I'm sure. Striking. Although, after the first shot the optics of the both the mighty 1-1/2x scope and the apparition of the pistolero manning that hog leg would be shrouded by the fog of war emitted by its charge of black powder.
I suggested to the proprietor that they further modify it by threading the muzzle for suppressor and adding a Picatinny rail for laser applications. But alas, he didn't take me seriously. -S2

Note the barrel and scope tube are both octagonal as opposed to round. Nice touch

Put me down for "Outlandish." To me, the setup limits the possibilities rather than extending the possibilities. I don't know the range of a .44 BP pistol, but I doubt a scope would extend the range.

Well, they have factory collapsable stocks and picatinny rails on lever actions so why not????

A guy once told me I should mount a 24 power scope on my 1875 C Sharps. No accounting for taste.
