Used in as new condition, installed a 12# Wolff spring, left the rebound spring alone, trigger now very smooth, surprising accurate for fixed sights, a pleasure to shoot and carry.

While most of my small revolvers are J frames, I do own two SP101s and consider them most excellent.

My Dad’s favorite revolver was the 3” SP-101. He viewed it as the ideal all purpose revolver. I still have his, plus my 3” and multiple 2.25” SP-101’s. You can’t go wrong with an SP-101.

Shot one today, in fact. With .38 Special, very pleasant to shoot. My buddy's gun. He shot it in .357 and was better with that than with the .38. I like it better than my J-frames, especially the lightweights.

I’ve owned that gun in the past and miss it. I especially like that barrel length, not the shorter one. It’s heavy, but not more so than the guns that I typically carry. And it’s very handy.

I used to pack a 66-4 for out on the range, now I like the sp101 4". Adjustable sights and a little longer sighting radius are nice for outdoor carry. I have a 60-9 3" for when I want to go really light. I do like after market grips on the sp101.

Have you seen these yet? I just saw them a couple weeks ago. The SP-101 comes with pretty great Lett stocks from the factory, but aftermarket has been kind of weak and these sure look interesting to me. I understand they plan to make different textures and colors.

Do those Hogue grips cut perceived recoil a lot? (See first post.)

I have Hogues on my 357 4”, run stock on my 22lr 4”. I have small hands and a fair bit of arthritis. I would not switch the grips, I like the Hogues much better than OEM grips. JMHO/YMMV

I expect I will go after market on the 22 when I get around to it. I like the look of the VZ grips Erich posted, but I doubt I spent that much on a 22.

Congrats

Congrats on your new SP-101 3 inch. A fine, general purpose, carry revolver. Mine is the shorter, DAO Model with Gemini Customs Fiber Optic Front Sight, but would love to have a 3 incher. Enjoy!

I had the same gun and it had a magnificent trigger job and was a joy to shoot. At the range where I work, there is a well qualified lady starting a series of classes on handgun basics and she lacked a revolver. My Ruger filled the bill perfectly. I miss that gun but it is now put to a much better purpose. One tip for your front sight that helped me a lot,

I did that exact same thing on my GP100 with (my daughter's) nail polish. Helps a bit better than solid black.

I use a Dykem Brite-Mark paint marker pen in bright orange for all my metal sights.

Put 200 various rounds through the Sp101 yesterday in the woods by our mountain cabin. Most accurate round has proved to be Fiocchi .38 +P 125 gr XTP, so that's now the carry round. We all have a fave handgun that balances in our hand just right, this is one of those.

I like my SP101, but nothing compares to S&W’s smooth double action.

The SP101 is my range gun and high desert carry here in Northern Nevada. I stoke it with a solid 38 Spl +P, 158 gr Speer SWC over 5.6 grs Power Pistol.
