I was going through all of my pics and emails dedicating a file in regards to my Loveless S&W Field Gun. Some of these were emails to and from Jim Merritt.

I did a search and unfortunately learned he passed on 31 Dec 2018. I had no idea and was really bummed. I feel very lucky to have talked to him on the phone several times, (as well as Bob’s other few “students”/partners.) I sure wish I had gone through with his offer to go down there and meet him. (I’m sure he made that same offer to everyone but it was special to me.)

Anyone else have any Loveless or Merritt pieces of art? Looks like the knife I want, (of course a Loveless Dixon Fighter,) is @ $30,000. :rolleyes

Jim

RIP Jim Merritt.
How bout a pic of the 41?
Don’t have an actual Loveless, have a Schrade and several knives made using Loveless designs.
When I win the Loveless Lottery, I want a Chute Knife.
Here’s my Loveless Pattern Dixon Fighter made by NM Maker Hank Kubacio.

My roommate from our USAF time in Thailand (1974-1975) was Brent Harp, one of the only people other than Jim Merritt to work in Bob Loveless’s shop on a regular basis.
I visited with Brent in about 2005 and spent an evening with Bob Loveless in his shop. Loveless was a big Triple Lock fan; he showed me a couple and also a custom Model 41 he had in his safe.
Brent made Loveless style knives on his own (with Bob’s consent) under “Brent Harp Knives.”
Brent passed a few years ago from Agent Orange cancer.

RIP Jim Merritt.

I’ve posted pictures before in the semi-auto section but here’s another one.

Every Loveless Field Gun was different but Bob did some special things to this one. I think by this time he was earning enough to pay his rent, (to Dr. David Dixon,) but for years he was trading knives to David for rent. Hard to believe it now.

Jim
