Make it look old?
I recently purchased a cheap bowie knife made in Pakistan on ebay.
I would like to make it look old to fit in a wall display. Any ideas for ageing the knife and sheath?
thanks,opr1945

I watched a video on how they were made. They can make something out of nothing.

First wrap in cotton cloth unevenly, then pee on it (or coat in vinegar) and bury in the flower beds until Easter, Then you can resurrect it.

As I posted already, I vinegar pickled this Mora.
It turned a pretty even gray-black, not sure it looks that old.

A very salt brine mixture will age carbon steel very quickly. I have done this when having to replace a old part with a new part on antique furniture or guns. If the part is brass I suspend the part over pure ammonia in a closed container for a few weeks

If my dog King was still alive, his insanely acidic pee would do a fine job on it as it did on a couple of computer case side panels he "took a shot at" over his lifetime, along with some super nice unetched PC boards I had found in a dumpster where I used to work at. I had plans for those boards, but King decided to etch them in his own special way. I took one of the computer case panels, washed it nice and clean and put clear coat over the resulting rust pattern he left on it. I tossed that PC about the time he died, so no pics, but nobody ever guessed what made the strange machine gun pattern it had on it.

I have applied lines of mustard to get an almost Damascus type finish. The greatest discoloring happens at the edge of the line. Multiple applications are best.
