Chalk me up as another that has always lusted for a full-auto Thompson 1921 or 1928. Sadly, it appears that they are way out of reach financially for me. This 1927A5 is the closest I can come, and this one is a bit hard to find and getting pricey itself.

Growing up in the 80s, I lusted after a lot of guns of the time, but the easiest one to get, the Mini-14, is just one I haven't bought. Once I got into flat top ARs post-active duty, there wasn't a need.

I'd buy one in .350 Legend though, just for kicks.

I have a pretty extensive Milsurp collection, rilfes, pistols etc..no full auto.

The silliest one for me is the HK USP compact 45 caliber. I rented one and shot it at the range in 1999! and I fell in love with that gun. If felt like I could not miss. I know, they are easy to get.

it just seems like when I find them at a shop , I don't have the cash. When I have the cash, I 'm looking at collectables.

Maybe I dont love them as much as I think?

There is no magic wand. I have had 3 K-80's, Ljutic LTX, and Perazzi Grand American. Want to break targets, get a gun with no choke tubes, and nothing adjustable on the stock. Go to a stockmaker, and have the stock modified or made to fit you. Every time you adjust a stock, you are shooting a different gun. Choke tubes and patterns mean nothing. Find the point of impact, and put the barrel in the right place. That breaks targets, along with a few other pointers

Now to answer the original question, something in a Westley -Richards bolt action in 270

I always wanted a Colt Python but most of my income went to a wife & two kids (no regrets) on a cop’s salary. I could afford it today but still can’t justify that kind of money.

I've always wanted a Winchester 52 Sporter however real nice ones are in the $4500 and up range . Way more than I would be willing to spend.

A Webley-Fosbery. I've never seen one in person and the prices that are asked are way out of my budget.

I bought a Python brand new in 1972. Always one of my very favorites, but never had much interest in buying any other Colts, until I bought a nice 1917 a few years ago. The bug then bit me. Since then a model 357, two Officers Model Special, 4th issue (in 22lr and 38 Special), and an Army Special. Two of my grail guns are Shooting Masters in 45acp and 357 magnum. They are rare birds, but the hunt is fun. My preference for S&W has not waned, but the Colts are an interesting diversion.

Sharps buffalo gun. Caliber not important. Just something big.
The only replicas that scratch the itch cost multiple thousands of dollars and as I am fond of saying, “costs exceed my interest level now”.

Thompson 1921AC Submachine Gun. Sadly, it's too expensive, and I'm not willing to settle for one of the modern non-NFA reproduction pieces.

Add me to the list of Thompson gun fans. I’ve wanted a Thompson since I was six years old. Last year I got to fire several Thompson’s, and now I want one more than ever. My preference would be for a 1928 Thompson, but I’m willing to settle for a M1A1 or any other example if someone wants to give one away. Unfortunately I don’t see me being able to afford one, unless I win the lottery.

I credit my interest in the Thompson gun to three things: watching endless WWII movies as a kid, the toy Tommy gun my grandfather bought me, and listening to Irish rebel songs.

S&W .44spl 3rd model 4” and an HK MP5SD. I’ve shot each but won’t ever have enough disposable funds for either the rest of my life short of winning the lottery LOL.

I'm with S&W Fan on the H&K MP5SD. I've had one issued to me and qualified with it one upon a long time ago. What a sweet shooter!!!! Way out of my price range as a retired LEO.

The handgun that I always wanted was a Luger. Preferably one that served in both World Wars. Almost had one when I had a change of fortune and had to let it go. Wanted the S&W billboard 1911, but have other 1911's now that I just found first and filled the slot. Hunted for a decent Israeli Mauser, but everything that I saw looked like driftwood. Always wanted an M-1 Garand, but decided that I would really prefer an M1-A with magazines instead of the wire clips. A 9 mm Mauser C-9 would be "cool to have" because they are iconic like the Mauser, but again, so many nice guns, so little money and time. I have enough rifles, until I win the lottery or get more gift certificates.

I have AR-15s, had a Garand (gun club loaner) and HK-Cetme clone, owned an Auto Ordnance Thompson (1973 manufactured semi-auto). I have encountered more "good deals" on handguns than any one person is entitled to find. The 'practical list' is finished, 'I think I want an xxxx' is non-existent.

I'm a frugal reloader that doesn't care to scour a football field to find my brass. The Garand kept brass on the range, and the HK-Cetme kept it in the county. The new production BAR is 20 pounds of pure cool, pricey, and I hate searching for brass.
Browning Automatic Rifle Model 1918 Reproductions | Armory Blog

Shot guns are a waste of money for me, I can't hit anything with one. Not even the cly pigeon laying on the dirt berm at 25 yards. I have too many handguns to buy another one, and not enough money to go looking for the next one.

I have arrived at the terrible point in time, "Shoot what you already own."

I have quelled my unfulfilled full auto desires with bb guns...
all by Umarex... made of metal, fake wood and full auto..
C96 Mauser broomhandle.. MP40 "Schmeiser"...
and a shiny new Thompson sitting under the Christmas tree

and no... I won't shoot my eye out..

THIS. It was thanks to a Gun Digest article about the mannlicher-schouner and the 6.5s prowess in Africa that made me love anything 6.5.

As a lefty, I'll never find (I don't think?) an original in LH, but would probably buy an original if i ever got the chance.

One day I'll make a custom LH Mannlicher type rifle in 6.5 swede.

A semi-custom 1911 (Les Baer/Ed Brown/Nighthawk/Wilson Combat.) I almost pulled the trigger on one 15 years ago, but something else had a higher priority on the funding list. Current prices are out of my reach. My wife took care of my other wishes (Remington 1100, Browning BAR in 30-06, Smith & Wesson Model 29, and Smith & Wesson Model 41.)

Something I always wanted as a kid in the 50’s was a Thompson 1928, I know that was a dream never to become realized.
So the one I really want is the next one I buy.

A Ruger No. 1 Tropical in .458 Winchester Magnum. I have no practical use for one, I've just always wanted one. It seems I was never at the right place at the right time.

Now, I find that the older I get, the more sensitive to recoil I get. It would be loaded down to about a .45-70, and the chance of me getting one at this point is pretty slim.

1. M-1 Carbine Paratrooper model with the folding stock.

Have seen modern repros but the test reports on all of them seem to come up short. Did once have a Plainfield, but the M-3 Grease Gun-style stock turned me off and the gun was not reliable. Love the look of the original folder, even with its shortcomings.

2. S&W Model 21 4" bbl (or pre-21), but at a $ I can live with. So few were made; they're expensive.

Another Forum member contacted me in March that he had a mint pre-21 in box, etc. that he was bringing to a show. I passed on it, foolishly never asking the $. Gotta believe something like that would run at least 5 grand. Maybe I'll PM him, see what's shaking.

When I was a young fellow, and a member of a deer hunting club (shotguns, buckshot, and hounds) I wanted a Browning A5, but never got one. I told myself I didn't really like them...they were no better than my Sears pump gun, or my later Remington 1100, and that was probably right. That Sears pump gun, especially shoot buckshot just fine, and put more than a few deer on the ground.

But I never got an A5. I doubt I ever will now. I haven't hunted in years and if I ever do get a chance again, the old Sears Pump is still in the safe.

I had a chance to shot an authentic MP-40 at a range in NW years ago. I’ve wanted one ever since.

I can't think of anything that I really wanted that I didn't buy at one time or another. Often though after getting it, I found out it wasn't all I thought it was so sold it.

Exclamation Don't ever say never

"What gun have you always wanted but never got for what ever
reason?"

Colt New Frontier (adjustable rear sight SAA) in 44 S&W
Special, 5-1/2" Barrel.

Over the years I had a chance at three brand new in the box, but,
each had craftsmanship problems I couldn't have lived with.

Very close behind; Marlin 1895 SBL (Jarassic Park) Govt 45-70,
Lever Action Rifle.

The Best to all of You.

1941 Johnson rifle- they’ve never been cheap but the times I was going to buy one I could never find one that wasn’t sporterized or in rough shape. Now they’re all insane pricewise.

Brought it in the house for a closer look.
It’s a 284. Never had one, not a clue where it came from.

Just like the OP I have always lusted for a Mauser broomhandle preferably a red nine, and I just missed this reasonably priced one at the LGS

I’ve also been longing for a Sig AMT rifle, one day...
