Martini International Mk V
Years ago I won a Mk V at an estate auction. It came with sights, but after shooting it a few times I put it away and never fired it much.
Recently I began shooting a weekly smallbore match at my range...alternating weekly between 50 and 100 yards. This caused me to pull my smallbore target rifles out of the safe and begin shooting them. So far, I've used my Winchester 52's.
I recently glommed a Lyman 20X Super Targetspot and decided to try the Lyman on my Mk V. I zeroed the scope at 50 yards and did some ammo testing.
This rifle loved everything--even the cheap CMP black box.
5 rounds @ 50 yards...

martini Mk 5
I have the same rifle, but I was told it was a Mk3. Same type and color stock. Awesome shooter, even the cheap stuff. I use it in offhand matches, a little heavy and hard on the back. They are just great rifles. Ken

It's been a few years, but I used to shoot a 100 yard prone match at our club. It's great fun. I used an Anschutz 1403 match rifle, with a 20X Unertle Target scope. I really used to enjoy laying there watching the center of the bull go up and down with my pulse. Enjoy it as long as you can, we get too old too soon.
Here's a picture of some targets I shot with that rifle, brings back memories.

Amen to your last sentence. You speak the truth. I had a Remington HB target rifle and stupidly traded it for a boat. I always wanted a .222 but kept putting it off and now that I could buy what I want, I couldn't use one. You can never reclaim even one day, it's gone.

I have one although not as well equipped as yours(BSA Martini that was used early 20th for cadet match shooting. While I can't say my groups are as good as yours(kept the metallic sights)I agree that the gun will shoot all kind of ammo about the same;not finicky like my Walther which cost me an arm just to find which it preferred!

Nice gun, love the Martini rifles. Presently have a 12/15 made in 1949. Had a .310 Cadet, a .310 converted to a .357 and a MK2 thru the years. Enjoy that gun, it was most likely used in the Olympics, great bench gun. Looks great with the long scope. Give us some more range results as you shoot it.
Tried to get 1/4” groups at 50 yds with the 12/15 with various ammo and couldn’t quite do it. My equipment is minimal and technique sucked. So I bought a Savage Anschutz 54 sporter and will attempt it again next spring. May buy a lead sled to help out.
Nothing better then a quiet day at the range with a nice gun, some ammo and a cup of coffee. Larry

At the range I shoot at we have a weekly .22 challenge, during warmer weather we shoot .22 rifle at 100yds...most of time you need to clean the target and have over 20 X's to be competitive. Most of the rifles on the range are Winchester 52s, a Remington or two, Anschutz 54's and later. One guy shoots an older Martini, he shoots everything very well and usually wins the challenge if he shows up...irritates everybody because it just goes to show you that money don't buy a win.

Nice looking gun, Jebus!
I've got a 12/15 also. Had it for years and need to get out and shoot it again.

I have a Kimber 82G CMP government model rifle with a 15X Unertl Varmint scope on it. Image is all it's got. I've tried Leupold, Vortex, Simmons, old Redfield, Burris scopes and factory iron sights. Any ammo at 25 yards is 1"+, 50 yards is mostly inside a 3" target dot, too frustrated to try 100 yards.
I dream of groups like that. Done all the magic steps and things posted on Rimfire Central. If I want small groups, I shoot a Ruger Mk II or my S&W M41 with the same ammo. Ruger shoots anything into a respectable group.
Great shooting. Enjoy while you can.
EDIT: The best thing about the rifle is on my day at CMP, I searched through 15+ rifles and found one without the "box cutter" scratch down the full length of the stock. Appearance is fantabulous, performance is pitiful. My custom built Ruger 10-22 with NC Star mil dot reticle scope takes same the same ammo and shoots 1 hole groups at 25 and 50 yards, but it doesn't have the same image. It is just another bull barrel 10-22 with laminated stock -- until you pull the trigger on a full 25 round mag, the magic starts.

That's a shame. I had heard good things about those Kimbers.

Sorry to hear about your lemon. I had one with a Redfield 3200 20x I put on I that got 1/4" at 100 with Eely Club Extra (EPS bullet) A friend had one from the same school trade-in batch of 5 that was like new and shot poorly, all he did was shim the front action screw bout .02" so the barrel cleared the stock. Then it shot better than mine!
Ivan
I sold the Redfield 3200's 20x and 16x, the Kimber, an Anschutz 54 prone rifle, a Anschutz 54 22 Hornet (1 of 5 stainless bull barrels), and a Winchester 1917 about 8 years ago. I got enough cash to pay off my maxed out Credit card, pay for the last 3 semesters of collage and have pocket money for 6 months! Not bad for a few old guns I wasn't using! But yes I still miss them all!

If you were left handed and couldn't afford an Anschutz 54 lefty, those Martinis were your only target rifle option. I would see left stocked models come in and be gone in minutes, right stocked models took about a day to sell!
Great looking guns that I never had the pleasure of owning!

i had 3 at one time and read a lot about them. Some of them were relined at the factory to enhance accuracy. They are so marked around the muzzle. I had mine refinished and they buffed the reline marking off, which I should have told them not to do, but.....I restocked it for my grandson and it rests in my safe.

Anytime there was a Martini on the line, we all asked if they could be assigned the farthest right hand spot.....they had a very aggressive ejector that would hit shooters 4-5 spots to the right of them with the ejected empties!!

I have an old Martini 12/15 (i think) that i bought with a cracked forend for $75.00. I just cut the long forend back and refinished it. It shoots extremely well.

"Some of them were relined at the factory to enhance accuracy"
I believe they were relined after much shooting by youth gun clubs in England; many were relined by general gunsmiths.
Since this has devolved into a "show your Martini" thread, here's my 12/15. I've let many heavy target .22's guns go as I'm old and feeble, but I can still hoist this one for a few shots, it's a real favorite. The picture makes the gun look in better condition than it actually is:

All you had to do is get to the left of the strongest competition you had in the match and drive him nuts with empties bouncing around him!!

We do this with Sporting Clays all the time! Either pelting a guy with your ejected empties, or throwing away once fired 28 gauge AA hulls in front of a reloader!

Sorry you got one of the bad ones. When I was looking for a good solid .22 target rifle to compete with the guys on Saturday I was warned off the Kimbers. Enough of the guys had either had experience or knew the right people in order to understand that Kimbers were by and large hit and miss when it came down to accuracy potential. Plenty of good ones out there but sadly enough bad ones to ruin their dependability. It seems that if you were a club that could purchase in quantity say ten rifles and took them out to test them you would find six out of the ten to be acceptable, two out of ten would be sketchy, and the other two were just unacceptable by any club shooting standard. If you ordered one from the factory as someone did and found that it would not deliver what you expected they would give you another to try. I was told "Get an Anschutz Model 54 that has been cared for, problem solved." Even with the best rifle there are always little issues to get around, most of them will have a particular ammo the shoot better. A friend of mine has a Model 54 that shoots nearly everything he feeds it well, gets best results from quality ammo but it shoots Wolf Target quite well. My Model 54 is extremely ammo picky and of course needs to be fed a diet of top end RWS or Eley...leaning the best towards Eley Black Box (no fliers outside the 10 ring) at 100yds.
