Default Who’d a thunk it?

I bought a Taurus G3C right before the election as a range toy at Rural King for $259. MSRP is $309.
The other day I get an email from a well known Arizona distributor offering the same for $359. Who’d of thought they’d be scalping Tauri? Strange times.

Just about anything that launches a bullet is in high demand these days. I sort of wish... actually do wish, considering the reputation of and the magazines that come with it, I had bought a Taurus G3C when they were available for very little money.

You should see the insane prices paid at Internet auctions for used pistols, often with only one mag and no box or papers. Would you buy a used Glock 22 like that of unknown heritage and use for a $475 bid plus 18% buyers' premium? No, neither would I.

Strange days indeed boys. Strange days. Used police turn-in G2 & 3 Glocks in the unloved 40 are selling for ridiculous prices. Then, pay $35-50 a box for whatever ammo you can even find!
I almost feel badly for new gun buyers.

BTW Acorn, What do you think of that G3C after owning it for a bit?

In the pawn shop where I work when we can even get the g2s and G3’s from the distributors we use they cost us more than we were selling them for last January. Suddenly for some reason 40s are in great demand, even the Hi-Points. If we have one to put in the case, it will be gone by the end of the day. Same for ARs, I put one out that was a pawn forfeit the other day that was on the wall for 3 minutes.

Nothing is strange in today’s times and market. My range sells just about every gun before it hits the display case. I think a few single actions and a few just odd long guns are about all you can walk in and buy.

A very good friend of mine acquired some forty ammo at 2019 pricing along with an old Glock 22. Then I traded him some 40 for 45 he didn’t need. He said he enjoys shooting it and said if it weren’t for the lack of other options he probably would have never given a Glock 22 a try.

I’ve only been to the range once with it. I ran 50 lead hand-loads through it. Function was 100% reliable. Not a bobble. I can’t speak to the accuracy since I was shooting at steel not paper, where I could say X” groups. But I did ring them regularly.
I have no .40 pistols but a lot of ammo.
I sold my XD40 to my BIL.
My only .40 currently is a Beretta CX4 carbine.
I’d like to see Taurus come out with the G3(G3C) in .40 at the same price point.
Right now ,40 Shields are unobtainium.

Things may be looking up. I was at the LGS last week and there was a new Glock 19 and 26 in the showcase. Haven't seen a Glock, M&P, Ruger, or any other brand auto loader since all this started, just a few revolvers or ridiculously overpriced collectors. That said, there's still no ammo to feed them.

I think the 40 S&W has suddenly become popular because the FBI and so many federal, state, and local agencies are now dumping their 40's. This means plenty of 40 S&W pistols available and relatively cheap. Ammo companies that had been producing tons of 40 S&W ammo for these agencies would have a lot less government sales and would dump the surplus on the civilian market. COVID-19, social unrest, and elections that did not go the way many expected have driven up demand and now nothing is plentiful nor cheap.

I looked at a G3C at a LGS a few weeks ago, they were selling for $449. They also were selling generic reloaded 9mm 115gr for $50 a box of 50.

I ordered a G3C online from Bud's for $309 and went to pick it up at local FFL dealer last week. I field stripped it at the store and refused it because of the wear on the barrel and slide of a supposedly "new" gun. I called Bud's and they gave me a refund. In my opinion the wear was excessive (see the photos). I posted these pics on the Taurus forum and several posters said this is normal for new Taurus guns because the factory racks the slide repeatedly and then fires up to 40 rounds to test operation. It looks to me like this is a well used gun, more than any factory testing you wear on it. The internals also were completely dry, not what I would expect from a Taurus made in Brazil from what I have read.

That's pretty much how mine looked when I got it. The barrels exterior is not polished so racking the slide burnishes the finish.

Looks ok to me. I do not know how many times a pistol's slide gets racked at the factory or how many test rounds Taurus fires in each pistol, but I'm sure they do these things to ensure proper function.

If only I had bought twice as many guns, so now I could sell half, but you know I would not sell them.
