Followed me home...
This fine old 1842 Military followed me home the other day, I shoot everything I own and fortunately .54 is right in my wheelhouse. I talked to the curator that cared for this and his only concern was further damage to the furniture and surrounding metal of the nipple. I installed an aftermarket nipple shroud and saved the original nipple by installing a proper replacement. The 1842 has the distinction of being the first American percussion military pistol and the last single shot. It earned a solid reputation during the Mexican war as well as native insurrections, was fairly well done in by the early Civil War with the 1851 Colt Navy and Army model of 1860. Not to mention the 1st model Dragoon of 48-50.
Fortunate officers like Dragoons carried them in pairs on their saddlebags, this habit carried over into revolvers.

Amazing how things without legs manage to follow us home. I have a 9mm custom Government Model that did the same thing.

The 1842 is fantastic! Another one on my "maybe not happening" list.

Very nice pistol. I have one of those myself though mine at some time in it's life lost the swivel ramrod and had a standard rod attached with an under barrel rib installed.... It's a fun shooter!
One comment to the OP, think you left a word out...Percussion. It was the first percussion US military pistol and the last single shot
