Default Finally, A Glock I like...

Today I finally found the Glock pistol that suits my tastes: The Lipsey's Exclusive Glock P80. I've wanted a Gen 1 Glock 17 for some time, however it has been a challenge tracking one down for a price I'd be willing to pay. Here in CT, they're considered pre-ban firearms, and can be legally fitted with threaded barrels and suppressors (not sure this is the same story elsewhere), and as such, they seem to command an insane mark-up locally. Last couple I saw for sale were priced over $1000 each for well used examples, and they didn't sit for long.

Today, when I stopped into the LGS, I was surprised to find the P80 there, NIB, but being sold as used. The previous owner is notorious for buying guns like this, not shooting them, and then trading them for other guns. For those who haven't seen these yet, it's a Lipsey's Exclusive, manufactured by Glock, to match the original configuration of the P80 as issued to the Austrian Army. They ship with an original style Tupperware case with two mags, cleaning brush and rod, and mag loader. They put all that into a nice outer box as well. It's my understanding that a batch of 10,000 were made, however runor is Glock may make more in the future.

Haven't shot it yet, but honestly kind of excited about this one, and I was never one to have much excitement over any polymer pistols. (SIG P226 is and will probably alway be my favorite handgun)

1985 Styling TODAY!!!

Enjoy, amigo . . . that was the first Glock I shot ('86 or '87), and I pretty much wouldn't shut up about what a great deal ($285) it was back then. Took a while before they started to become ubiquitous.

Good to see they redesigned the "Tupperware" box - I wasn't a lawyer yet (obviously) when I was slinging these at the gun shop, but the originals always seemed like an accidental discharge waiting to happen.

Yes they are out there to be a retro Glock, back to the beiginning of Glocks. Nice idea I guess but what is the point. The newer generations are better and you would have to live to a ripe old age of at least 200 before the collector value of a tuperware gun of any sort would probably be a collector piece.

I dont really know why it appeals to me. I don't know why I chase after named model or no dash or -1 or -2 S&W Revolvers. I guess I like to explore the original design intent of things. Sometimes revisions make a firearm better, sometimes they don't. As I mentioned in another thread, I've owned 13 Sig P226 pistols, of which 4 were older West German models. Those 4 were the absolute best of the bunch in performance and fit and finish in my opinion. Whereas the newer production models might have lighter triggers with shorter resets, I don't believe they make as well built a product now as they did back in the 80s and early 90s.

I've had Gen 3 and 4 G17s already, they were meh. I tried the Gen 5 G17, it's a good shooting pistol, but still just doesn't excite me enough to make me want to buy one.

First time the title has ever tempted me to read a Glock thread.

Nothing against Glock, just liked M&P better. That said, if a 30SF ever comes my way, I'd be sorely tempted.

Nothing like something from the mid 80s being considered retro, to make you feel old.......I guess that makes Def Leppard "classic rock" now.

I don't get excited about Glocks at all. They are plain, blocky and frankly ugly guns, but I keep one at my bedside. It's my bedside gun because it holds 15+1 rounds, has a rail to mount a tac light, and it goes bang every time I pull the trigger. It has never jammed or failed to fire. I depend on it for protection, but I never take it out and admire it, or lovingly stroke it with Rig grease like I do my 629-1 or ...

Glad you found a gun that flips a switch for you! Congrats

If one could only have a single handgun for anything and everything, one could do far worse than a G17 or G19...a gun that can be dropped in mud, cleaned by rinsing in a stream, and come out ready to fire is about everything but the looks...

Glocks are definitely worthwhile. Not pretty, but functional. I have a very early Model 19 and a very early Model 20 and I like them both very much, though I had to have a butt job on the Model 20 so it fit my hand halfway decently. The things just run and run and run. Like my 1964 VW.

Over the years I've sprinkled my nicer stuff with a few Glocks, two 20's, G22/357 sig conv, and when I got a 29sf two years ago it became a contender for those "If you could only have one gun...." threads.

Is it an abomination to prop a Glock with a S&W prop rod?

My first gen Glock was owned by the Washington DC police,, before I got it,,

Everyone likes to shoot this gun,, maybe because it is "broke in"??

To me, Glocks are tools, so this is like buying a "new" 1986 Toyota Camry when I can get a 2021.

OK...so the analogy isn't quite that extreme since the Gen 1s are almost as capable as the new guns. But I digress.
