30 years ago this Sunday, the first battle of Desert Storm
Just read this interesting story of events that led to the unplanned first battle of Desert Storm, with an Army Chief warrant officer and his 45, single handedly accepting an island garrison's surrender.

Amen to that. I hadn't thought about it much, but 30 years ago, on 1/15/91, I got a notification to "report within 24 hours" to my squadron to begin mobilization processing. By 1/20, I was being billeted at Ramstein AB. We all saw it coming, but had hoped otherwise. I'd already deployed for two months in August/September of '90 for Desert Shield, still had my bags packed from that.
I was a tad further back on the spear from its tip, so I only made it into the sand pit a few times, and thankfully, the guys at the tip were taking care of business and my job wasn't too bad (medevac Flight Nurse).

Apparently the USS Curts's final mission was September 19, 2020, functioning as a target . . .
