So I have 5 9mm Glocks. A 19X, 19 gen4, 17 gen 4 and 2 17 gen 5's. Of course the 19 can use the 15 round mags. All the 17 round mags will of course work in the 19. I have about 15 - 20 gen 4 mags + what came with each gun.

The gen 4 mags seem to work with everything. The gen 5 mags will not work with the 19X. And the gen 5 mags will not work in the 19X.

I want to purchase some more mags. It seems the obvious choice is gen 4 mags. Am I missing anything? Future Glock plans might include a Glock 45. I am not sure if is exactly a 19X just in black or which mag it would use
my
Best price I can find is $28 each including tax.

(My 5 Glocks do not come even close to my 14 Smith revolvers.)

It is my understanding that the magazine base plate on the Glock 17 Gen5 is different than the base plate on the 19X. I believe you can switch out the base plate on the G17 Gen 5 magazines to a Gen 4 or 3 base plate and be good to go for the 19X. The magazine bodies are the same.

I have 1 magpul Glock 17 round mag. I bought it at Cabelas in their closeout section a few years ago. I think it cost $12. I put maybe 48 rounds through it with no problems. I just prefer factory mags.

I tried most of my mags in each gun from each generation, The only problem was the 19X. I really hate removing the base plates on a Glock mag.

Second for Magpul. I’ve put thousands of rounds through my Gen 4 Glock 19 with nary a problem using their 15, 17, and 21 round magazines.

Their website states that they are compatible with all Glock pistols. Only aftermarket magazine I trust for Glock.

Perhaps I had a different 'generation' Magpul Glock 17 mag, but it did not fit properly in the 19X. The floorplate butted up against that lip at the front of the magazine well. YMMV.

I do like the full windows on the factorys vs. the fully loaded indicator on the magpuls.

You could always remove or modify the lip on the 19x if you really wanted it to run gen5 mags.

The lip was one of the reasons I picked the 45 over the 19x. I personally had no use for it.

I stated the Magpul mag worked well in my Glocks. At that time I did not own the 19X. I just tried the Magpul mag in my 19X, it worked fine. It may indeed be a different generation. I guess I should try any magazine in the 19X before I decide to buy.

I'm really not sure I want to keep my 19X. I normally only like guns in their original color (black or blue). I purchased it because I liked the concept of full size grip and shorter barrel.

I do have all stainless or two tone stainless guns. I worry that the color will show wear after more extensive shooting and carry. Most of my guns look like new. My only exception is a well used Smith model 13 three inch and a Python I carried on duty for several years.

No matter how bad of a shot you are, you're bound to hit what you're aiming at sooner or later. :D

I own and shoot them all nature of Glock mags across pistols and PCCs - OEM, ETS, Magpul, KCI and the rather new AC Unity Glock mags. Save one older KCI 33rd magazine with a plastic flashing issue, they are all fairly reliable. I do think the AC Unity mags may prove to be as good or better than Magpul as dedicated trainers.

When in doubt, just buy the Glock OEM. High reliability, decent pricing. You really cannot do better than the G4 OEM.

Smiths and Glocks seem a fine combo to me too.

I just purchased 4 Gen 5 mags at $13.00 ea out of state for my Glock 45. Much cheaper than Glock mags and from what I have learned work just fine.

With the price I cant see why anyone would buy anything other than OEM Glock mags. It's not like CZ where you're paying $43 or more for 1 mag. Glock mags are hard to beat. Other than OEM ETS mags are good too. I own 7 33rd G mags and 3 of the ETS 40s and they all have functioned 100 in my gen4 G17.

Personally, I look at the GSSF prices when I get the itch to consider a Glock. Honestly, for the premium a 19X commands, I would consider a G45 first ... you're looking at about a $140 savings and you have complete magazine interchangeability.

As an aside, an easy way to accumulate affordable Glock magazines is to volunteer for a local (or not so local) GSSF match. Range officers typically get a gift for each day they volunteer, ranging from a free magazine to a free match entry.

There used to be GSSF matches in my area. The indoor/outdoor range has been there since the 50's. The area around the range has built up over the years. The area used to be in a township. The local city has annexed the area.

A local resident complained to the city. The resident showed the city alleged bullets that had landed in his yard. The city ordered the outside range closed. The small indoor range (9 positions up to (50 feet) is still
open. I do not think they have GSSF there anymore.

If the 45 had been available I would never have bought the 19X. I hate selling blue label guns.
