Default GOOD Day At The Gun Club

Ran into a fella the other day at the gun club who had "an old target pistol" he wanted to sell. Said he had too hard a time holding it steady, and preferred his Ruger 22/45.

Went out to his truck, and brought back in a HS Supermatic Citation with a 2x Leupold mounted, and two magazines. Wanted $450 for it. I offered $400, and I would buy his lunch. Sold.

Need it like a hole in the head, already have a HS Victor, and a Ruger mkII HB target gun, but how could I turn it down for the price? Quick trip to the local FFL, and back to the range with my new toy.

Gun was filthy, but cleaned up nice. Both mags needed a little lip adjustment, but with CCI SV I was getting 5 shot groups the size of my thumb nail from a rest at 25 yards. Guess I can always squeeze one more into the safe...

I can see where that scope may make it a little muzzle heavy. I'd bet putting a small heads up red dot would make it balance a lot better and it will still be a contender in any bullseye match.

It is a little muzzle heavy for most, I would guess, but I like that way. Such guns have always held steadier for me

Yea, they do have that Ray gun vibe.

I am surprised more people who are in the market for a nice .22 pistol don't look at the higher end HS guns. Hand fit, very well finished, and more accurate then most people can shoot. Lots of nice examples out there in the $500 range or less.

Best trigger on a bullseye pistol I have ever shot. They are a great gun. I take mine to the range whenever I can.

Back in the 1990s I bought a High Standard military grip .22 target pistol that had been customized by John Giles, an old time pistolsmith. i got the test target with it and in a machine rest it would put 10 rounds at 50 yards into just over 5/8th of an inch. I still have it.

I had one of those years ago, setup similar to yours. The squirrels hated it Extremely accurate gun. I would suggest not doing as my Aunt did when she shot it. She stuck her thumb straight up behind the slide and it "bit" her, lol. Fortunately it landed in a patch of grass unharmed. You did well on that one!

I glad they were able to find her thumb. But was the gun okay?

Why did you have to make a trip to the FFL? Was he selling the gun?

The gun was what I was concerned with! It only "bit" her thumb. I'd bet the ole' lizard could grow a new thumb anyway

In PA, ALL handgun transfers, including private, have to go thru an FFL. Not so with private long gun transactions.
