I picked this up a couple days ago, but held off on posting a thread about it until now because I knew that everyone would want to see some pics of it, and I wanted to take some nice ones in proper natural sunlight.

Introducing the Ruger SR1911 NRA Edition, originally offered as a promotional Gallery of Guns exclusive for a limited time from September to December of 2018, this Full-size all Stainless Steel 1911 features a black nitride treated slide laser etched with the Second Amendment as well as the NRA Logo, a Red Cerakoted frame, and Red G10 grips with a raised NRA Logo on them.

I ordered this beauty online about a week ago for my brother who has always wanted a 1911, but never quite had the money or the means to get one that he really wanted. I knew at first sight that he would love this one, it just felt so right. Wouldn't you know it, when I showed it to him, he loved it, so it was a done deal. It was sold brand new in box, priced just above MSRP, which seemed like a fair price considering that it's a Limited Edition pistol from a good three years ago, but regardless, it was worth it to me.

As you can see, the factory G10 Grips have been swapped out for a pair of Altamont grips with a snakeskin pattern. These were a pair of grips that my brother bought on clearance for a mere $20 over a year ago just because he liked them, but I think they look terrific on the gun. With the black slide, red frame, and white grips, it looks not unlike a Harlequin Coral Snake, which I feel is sort of fitting considering the Second Amendment is on the slide as well as it's snake-like colors remind me of that patriotic flag with the phrase "Don't tread on me" featured alongside a snake.

Over all, it's a terrific firearm which I'm very pleased to be able to help my brother finally obtain, and the fact that it's a special 1911 only makes it all more memorable. When something just sort of comes together out of the blue like this, you know that it was meant to be.

Is that a real gun or is this an April Fool's joke? :D

Funny thing is, I intentionally avoided posting this yesterday because I had anticipated such a response.

Wouldn't be my first choice for color scheme, but Ruger makes good 1911s and as long as your brother is happy with it, that's all that matters.

Me neither, but my bro likes it, so I'm happy with it too. Besides, variety is the spice of life, and it's certainly unique.
It beats the heck out of some Kimber 1911s with Tiffany Blue frames if you ask me, not to mention some of the SIG 1911s with rust-colored frames, if you ask me.

I'm happy to see that the original poster "liked" my post. :)

I'm glad he took it as I meant it to be, which was in a joking fashion.

I was truly expecting to get "dinged" for my comment.

I'm glad that your brother likes his new gun....that's all that really counts. :)

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, as they say...

I'll take a red frame over one that's Tiffany Blue or covered in rust pitting.

If you think this is bad, whatever you do, DON'T play or watch a stream of any modern Call of Duty games online! Neon tigerstripes everywhere!

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, as they say...

I used to get the pastel rubber 1911 grips that used to be made by the Radical Grips company. I've put lemon yellow, insulation pink (think the Pink Panther) and sky blue grips on various 1911 variants I have or had. Some people probably gagged when they saw them but I thought they were pretty cool.

Those grips look like my legs when I stay in the tub too long.

Now that's funny, whether you like the gun or not!
I would take that gun in a heartbeat. I wish I still had my 1911, but no worries, as my son has it!
Where I grew up, Beaver County, PA, there's a town called Aliquippa. Their school colors are red & black. That hit me right off the bat! (Although they were a top-notch HS football town, not baseball.) Range report coming soon I take it?
Nice 1911.

Nice 1911.

Thank you. I grew up in Allegheny County, PA, myself. There will be a range report as soon as I can actually get out to the range with my brother, but I don't know when that will be exactly since I prefer outdoor ranges so I need to renew my state game land range pass.

My my it certainly is...different

Agreed, on both accounts. I'm sorry, I just can't see having it, myself. Oh, I do have a SR1911 in your basic black with walnut grips, and it is a fine pistol, but those colors make that one look like Toys R Us sold it. And as an NRA Ltd Edition, that's about like the Danbury Mint stuff you see in magazines ads. Doesn't add any more value to it.

To each his own, though.
