Default My fathers Colt 1911

Here are pictures of the Colt 1911 my father purchased through the DCM in 1962. The cost was $14.15 plus $2.85 shipping for a whopping total of $17.00. I have the an Inland M1 carbine purchased for $17.50 plus $2.50 shipping, total of $20.00. Also in my collection is the first rifle my father gave me as a kid. A Remington 1903A3 purchased for $10.00 plus $4.50 shipping for a total of $14.50.

Those were the good old days when you could could buy surplus arms from the Govt. and they would ship them right to your house.

Yes, we’ve gone from the government selling guns, that the people paid for, back to the people, to them wanting to take our guns away. Has the government lost faith in ‘we the people,’ or do they know that we’ve lost faith in them?

Have the guns gotten more violent, or has society gotten more messed up. We all know the answer to that one!!

My dad was a big buyer from DCM too. He got one of the 1911s back then too. That was the first big bore handgun I ever fired. When I checked the serial number on the Colt web site it showed his gun would be 100 years old now. Happily Pop kept this gun for the rest of his life. I have it now, to go with the 1911A1 I just acquired from CMP.

My father was a WW2 Vet and an avid firearms collector. His main interest was milsurp rifles. When I was a kid growing up there were rifles hanging up on racks in almost every room of the house. Milsurp rifles were cheap and plentiful, my father bought several from the DCM over the years.

The 1911 dates to April of 1918, obviously gone through a rebuild in it's life. It hasn't been fired in probably 50 years.
