I'm thinking about selling a Mossberg Palomino .22 in the rarer carbine barrel length (model 402) in excellent condition. I'm trying to figure out what it is worth.

I had one years ago. I traded for a Marlin 39M to a guy who wanted something even shorter. It was a good trade on my part. I can't remember shooting the Palomino for accuracy.

I was looking for a Marlin Mountie before I got this. I just picked up a Henry and like the vintage look better. I’ll probably just keep both.

The overall quality of this 50+ year old gun is superior to the Henry though.

My book says it's the carbine version with 20 inch barrel made from 1961-1971. Book is a few years old but I would think $300 at least. Looks like a fine gun.

That looks like a pretty nice 402, I think you would have no problem getting somewhere in the $400-$500 range for it.

Retail price was $68.88 in 1961. Between 1959 and 1971 a total of 41,607 Model 400/402 Palominos were made, with the 402 carbine accounting for over 70% of the total.

I was lucky enough to find both a 400 and 402 Palomino to add to my Mossberg .22 collection.

Looks like very nice condition.
About the closest thing to them was the Winchester 250,,looks anyway.
I think the Mossberg is classier and has some obscurity to go with it (It's Rare!).

In these times of hyper prices, I'd think at least 300+.
Somewhere inbetw what you can buy a Henry 22 and a used Marlin 39a for.

I've got a Winchester 250 and it does look like a Palomino. I bought the gun in 1964 and it is a low-end .22 rifle. Accurate enough, though.

I measured the barrel and it is 20 inches. It is a fine looking gun and I'll likely keep it. It is up on the PAFOA (PA firearms owners association) website for $450.

I had a 400 in the same condition but my daughter wanted it for her farm.
