Default That's not a knife..THIS is a knife !!!!!

What's the biggest bladed knife you own?

Bowie? Camp Knife? Toothpick? Tanto?

Or do you have a gigantic folder?

My absolute biggest is by Svord of New Zealand, the "Ned Kelly Toothpick ". Ferocious chopper, it's a great camp knife and is ridiculously easy to keep razor sharp. Pretty much indestructible, in a medieval kind of way.

What about you?

Coming in at Number 2 is a Strider/Buck fighter, shown alongside my only piece of Tactical Tupperware.

Almost 1/4" thru the tang, this one too is...uh...robust in its construction.

The bowie in my Case display. I had a couple more like it but sold them a few years ago and then this Case USMC combat knife would come in second.

Those Case XX Bowie's have a long history serving Uncle Sam, going back to WW2 IIRC.

Thanks for sharing it.

This a Miguel Nieto bowie made in Spain. Blade is 8.75 inches, total length is 14. I have some daggers that have longer blades, and an M1 Garand Bayonet that has a 10 inch blade. But by far the longest is my Toledo sword, a uniform item that every Coast Guard Officer has to have. Probably only good for saluting and sticking, although I managed to cut my ear with it back in 1983 during a Change of Command ceremony.

I have a Cold Steel Trailmaster bowie, the early one without the blackened blade. It's done sterling service in chopping and slicing.

The biggest knife I have is an old forged carbon steel chef's knife with a 14” blade, made by Henckels Twin Works.

I rarely use it. It's too big and heavy for kitchen prep work and I don't have a goalies mask!

I have absolutely NO need for it, but I have a Gil Hibben Magnum Bowie with a 12 1/2 inch blade. It's very Mad Max looking and certainly stretches the historical term "Bowie" a bit. I don't know how to post my own pics, but I'll try to get one from their site.

My Edge Brand bowie. I believe made in the early 1960s in Solingen. Carbon steel and real stag handle. 14" total length.

On the left is just about but not quite Anza’s biggest knife, the Dune Slayer. I don’t really like having a knife with “slayer” in the name, but there you are. The blade is a good quarter inch thick and just under eight inches long, made from a file, with filework on the spine, for a kind of self-referential visual pun in the vein of a Kirby self-polishing vacuum cleaner or Asimov’s self-repairing robots.

Next over is the Scrap Yard DB-421. 7 5/8” blade and a resiprene handle. I bought this knife because I had one, smaller knife with a resiprene handle, and the next time I got a ch ance to buy one, I grabbed another.

Third is the Becker BK9 Combat Bowie, “The King”. Beckerheads will tell you this is the one Becker to have. I am not sure I agree, but it is a pretty cool knife.improbably comfortable handle, chops like crazy and cuts like a knife as well.

On the right is the Varusteleka Skrama, a design derived from the seax, the Saxon short sword. Excels at many tasks, chopping, splitting, carving. If I had to head for the hills with just one blade, this would be my pick.

Next photo is the BK9 in hand, for scale.

Last but not least, the Old Hickory 14” butcher knife. I don’t know where else you find that much knife for $25.

About fifty years ago I picked up a Solingen knife but it had a broken
bone handle. I made the replacement grip out of a pick handle. When
I showed it to my Dad he said "it ain't much for looks, but it's hell for
strong".

I'm not knocking your big 12" ~ 14" bowie knifes but, what would one do with it? and don't say hunting! No one I know carries a 14" bowie knife hunting.

I've skinned and cut up close to 100 deer and few Elk in my life and never needed anything bigger than a 4" blade.

Like Chad pointed out, I also have some big kitchen knifes.

I do have a 8" fillet knife. works great on Crappie and Walleye

That's very similar to my Rambo III knife I've had since about '89 or so!! Gil Hibben made that one for Stallone and, along with the other knives he used in his movies, added it to his collection after filming...

Mine's Great for hunting, fishing and such!! Holds a pretty good edge also!!

Use it as a machete to chop through thick foliage and look like a 1980s Action Hero doing it?

Hmmmm....I lost my response somewhere....

Oh, well, I was going to note that I wasn't including huge kitchen knives but then there is this Cold Steel Laredo Bowie, with its smaller friends:

Then there is this Mossy Oak "thing", and no, it didn't come with the engraving :

Then there's this machete if you want to crash through woods and not get your fancy Bowie knife dirty:

Like Chad pointed out, I also have some big kitchen knifes.

I do have a 8" fillet knife. works great on Crappie and Walleye
There ya go confusing need with want again.
My Dad had a a Puma Great White Hunter and a smaller Puma with a 4" blade. Matching bone handles. He made a double sheath for them that was a thing of beauty. Totally worthless in the field although he made a separate sheath for the smaller knife that was of some practical use.
Me. I love knives, some are things of beauty but I am rough on them and use them in rough (read saltwater and marsh) enviroments. FOr my use, SAK's and a pair of game shears works on pretty much 99% of what I shoot. The occasional deer is close enough to throw on the 4 whgeeler and take someplace to clean and dress on a table at the camp where proper cultery is available. Ditto for fishing. Dexter Russell pretty much does it all.
As far as sailing and marlinspike duty, Myerchin pretty much rules. Tough to beat the lock back knife/marlinspike captians model.

IDK if it counts as a "knife" but I have a Schrade "priscilla" strapped to my plate carrier for those times when bullets would be wasted

I've got a Marble's 12" stag handled damascus bowie. Bought it at a bike run for way too much money one night after too many adult beverages. Paid double what it went for on the internet. It's a long blade but not very thick, and it's too big to be usable or comfortable to carry. For a large fixed blade, I much prefer a 6-7" blade. This one is in storage for right now. When I get it out of storage, it will be a display piece.

Default A timely thread

I picked up this Bowie at my favorite pawn shop last week. I know nothing about it. Its unmarked. Nice build quality with a well ground and sharp edge.

Default Longest Blade

Longest blade I have is a Buck Special, 6" blade. I can't ever see needing anything longer.

lihpster, glad you mentioned Marbles. You have a really beautiful knife.

The first big knife I ever owned is a Marbles Ideal Knife. I think it was made in the early 50's. It was given to me by our next door neighbor when I was 16. He was a SGT of Detectives in Seattle PD homicide (bureau, division, whatever) He retired in 1961 and asked me to help him pack up some of his stuff because they were moving. This included cleaning out his safe. That knife, and another one (a Western skinning knife Model L49 made between 1939- 1940, but that's another story) were in the safe. He asked if I wanted them. I still have them. He claimed some guy tried to stick him with the Marbles. Of course we have all heard the story about bringing a knife to a gun fight. It had a broken tip, so I had it reground. The blade is in fair condition and the stacked leather handle is in excellent shape. Plus that it holds an edge better than any knife I've ever owned (although my J Martini, filet knife is in competition for that honor) I have used the marbles for everything from gutting fish to cutting down small trees. It is one hell of a knife. blade 6.25 inches (was probably 7 before some idiot broke it) overall length 10.5 inches. when I need a really good knife for a job it is usually my goto knife.
I also have it's little brother the Marbles Camper. Not as old as the ideal but just as good and just a few inches shorter.

Definitely some great-looking knives! The biggest I have is this one. It's a 10½-inch, high-carbon steel blade with the etched inscription on the blade which reads:

"...and my vengeance shall fall upon thine enemies."

My grandad's 1942 True Temper machete. It hung on his side during 9 Pacific War campaigns. Priceless to me.

A 7" blade or an 18+1 auto...........truth be told.... there's a small chance of ever needing either .........but having either provides a certain level of comfort.

Not sure if it's the biggest knife I own, but it is big and incredibly rare. It's a 1900 U.S. Krag bowie bayonet - complete with scabbard. The only other one I've seen rests in the Springfield Armory Museum.

Something I acquired a while back from a neighbor out of his dad's estate. They were a bit poorly kept so I'll need to spend a little time with some polish. Mid '70s era Rigid Knives, an R-7 Skinner and a R-10 Rebel. Monogrammed scabbards. I guess the owner just didn't care...
They are heavy and overbuilt.
