Just saw an ad for police trade in High-Point 9mm for $99. Is there any police agencies that use High-Points? I have never heard of such a thing. As a rule High-Points will work but I wouldn't want to depend on one.

I understand that some departments issued Hi Point carbines instead of shotguns or ARs. Maybe that is what the ad refers to.

Perhaps cleaning out evidence room some municipalities do this from time to time. They will take whatever they have to whomever supplies them with their firearms, and trade them in on equipment. I can't imagine any law enforcement division using Highpoints...

They listed several in 9mm,380, and .40. If they were indeed guns from the evidence room I don't think the should list them as police trade-in. It is not like here are our High Points please ship us Glocks for replacement.

I have not handled one but I understand they are somewhat homely in appearance and reliable.

However, if they are being advertised for sale in three different chamberings I doubt a law enforcement agency used them professionally. Much more likely turn-ins, recovered from thefts, confiscations, etc.

Lots of smaller departments issue Hi Points as duty weapons. That's all they can afford. Why not they are reliable. Ugly and clunky doesn't mean they won't work.

An Officer's pants would be hanging down with a HiPoint hand gun attached to his/her pants. LOL

LE acquires firearms from many sources such as found guns, suicide guns, evidence guns, turned in guns, and the list can go on. It is not just former law enforcement guns.

Say what you will about Hi Point, but they are as reliable as Grandma Muggins' International Tractor . . .

I hear this every time the name Hi-Point comes up; but the fact is, out of half a dozen or so I've known I have yet to come across one of their pistols that worked at all, let alone with anything like reliability. The carbines, yes; the pistols, no. The company replaced two of them under warranty and neither of those replacements worked, either. The idea of any police department issuing them is laughable.

Maybe it's a new way or result of de-funding...

Just a point of parliamentary procedure, but I never mentioned how reliable Grandma Muggins' tractor actually was. I'll say that my .45 ACP Hi Point goes bang every time I press the trigger, and as a bonus, the weight added by a full magazine is negligible in the overall scheme of things . . .
