I picked up the Sig today. Shows a tad bit of wear, so isn't the best trade that I ever made, but I wanted one. The Chicom holosight seems to be in working order, and this model has a flip up front post and a sort of cheesy rear unit that also flips. With the chintzy rear unit raised and the front post also up, it actually does seem to cowitness with that dubious holosight. Interesting.

Took me about three minutes to "customize" by adding a weapon's light, vertical foregrip, and red (visible) laser on the various and sundry rails. The rail units don't seem as rock solid as the Surefire M73 rail that I used to have on an AR, but seem workable.

Mine has the folding collapsible stock. Apparently these things don't take a bayonet? I don't see a bayonet lug, or is some proprietary model? That's actually puzzling, as the rifle is quite un-PC - hi cap mags, folding stock, flash hider, so where's my bayonet lug? Grr.

Complaints about these rifles being front heavy are true. What I'm not sure yet, not having tried it out, is whether that is a good or bad thing. It feels "stout" in the same way that my P229R does.

I'm not sure about the complaints regarding the mag. It seems well enough made. I have two that are identical to it, right down to the connectors, save for the Sig Sauer logo, that I bought for 16.99 per at the local MCX. I snapped these together to make a triple mag - not quite as good as my old C-Mag, but the side folding stock doesn't seem to lend itself well to the buttstock mag pouches (Specter gear) that I like to use. Obviously a vendor is making the mags for Sig and selling them on their own as well.

The big choice looming is that I have chance to get a NIB Colt 6920 still. I'm torn. I still have the Colt SP2, two CCMG M4 clones - one straight CMMG and the other all Colt save the CMMG lower, and an RRA A2 stocked lower that I need to mate with an upper yet. Thus it isn't like I don't have ARs, but the lack of a 6920 has been bothering me.

I think you have the answer right there. If you want it, and it is economically feasable, why not go for it?

How about a pic of the Sig with the accessories that you added?

I have yet to meet a truly lightweight modern tactical rifle or carbine. Once all the accessories are in place the weight adds up. My issue M-4 CQB carbine certainly weighed more than I liked when it was all said and done.

There are two long guns that I've used that are lightweight. Both are memorable. One was an M1-A1 carbine; the second was a CAR-15. I would take either in place of my duty rig.

As posted above, if you can make it happen, get it. It'll nag you otherwise.

As for the mag, some people have had good luck with them but most found they don't feed very well. I've got Magpul Pmags for mine.

Now I am surprised you can co-witness with the Holo sight as I can't. I do have the hooded front sight vs. the folder but like you I have the flip up rear sight.

Here's mine 556 Holo:

I'll some pictures up in the am when I won't wake the wife with the "what's that flashing camera while I try to sleep" situation.

I actually have an M1 carbine. Mine is an Iver Johnson that seems to be mostly old GI parts save for the commercial receiver, as some (many?) Ivers were. I put mine in a Choate folder and replaced the handguard with a metal one- mainly so that it would match. I looked at the Italian made replica paratrooper stocks, but their lack of a lock up made me go with the Choate offering. Apparently someone else had the same idea since Kahr now sells a "tactical" model M1 carbine that looks identical to what I morphed the old IJ into.
I've been trying to get a Colt "Commando" upper - 11.5" bbl and 5.5" flash hider - to build up my own pseudo classic Car-15. CMMG makes an upper of that general sort, but unfortunately they seem to be back ordered to the point of "you'll get it when you get it, so leave us alone!".

I'd stripped the Surefire rails off my one CMMG clone and sold them, replacing them with a simple and lighter Magpul offering. It's still heavier than the old SP1 that went towards the Sig. Not as weighty - nor is the Sig for that matter - as the FAL carbine that I decided that I just had to have.

It would mean trading away a number of my better defensive handguns to get the 6920, hence my hesitation. (I'd then have still more ARs, but be down to a Sigma, Series 70 Colt, and a P229R for bottom feeding handguns.)

Sir, why not trade away some of your present ARs instead? I imagine they'd move quickly enough.

Hope this helps, and Semper Fi.

Lack of impending legislation that would impact my ability to get more handguns makes that less urgent. Other than my .357 Sig dalliance, I've mostly been a fan of .45s, so a mag capacity limit wouldn't really be a huge problem.

Sir, if you just want a pile of ARs, that's one thing; if you're buying based on laws that may or may not be coming down the pike (Central Scrutinizer, anyone?), that's something else entirely.

There will be legislation and rumors of legislation. Handgun legislation will be along soon enough. In the meantime, it might be wiser to focus on your own wants and needs than on the whims of the Beltway Bandits.

JMHO, FWIW.

Hope this helps, and Semper Fi.
