old Taurus model 85
I got this SS 3in Taurus model 85 at a police supply shop for $100. I have never had a Taurus before and for a truck gun I took a stab. It was very dirty but cleaned up great. I shot it yesterday and I was surprised at how well it shot. Thats a 10 shot group at 10 yds one flyer on edge of paper It was made before 1992. I got the S&W model 37 2 weeks ago there and just put the old J Scott grips on it. Its a fine shooter also.

Best $100 you've ever spent! I would have bought that faster than a speeding snail! ;D

For $100, how wrong could you possibly go? I have only one Taurus, an old Model 96, looks like a S&W Model 17. It goes "bang" and is reasonably accurate. The trigger is not as nice as a S&W, but it didn't cost anywhere near what a S&W Model 17/K-22 would have cost either!

I too have a Taurus M-85 and I like it a lot. With the IWB holster and the G-10 grips from Brownells and my tan shirt it is nearly invisible even though I don't wear a jacket, vest or other hiding device. To me (remember I'm a cheap old cuss) it is the near perfect night stand gun. Only thing i can think of that would be better is the M-36 S&W my brother talked me out of. Bugger, I hated having to part with it.

I have owned a stainless Model 85 for over 25 years, it was a dependable shooter, but the internal parts were rough. When I polished the internals and replaced the coil mainspring with a Wolff unit I was able to reduce the double action pull to approximately 9 lbs.
It has given me reliable service. Others that I know have not had the best experiences with 85s. I would buy another if it passed a close inspection.

The internal parts had almost no wear. It was full of gunk and maybe dried old oil. It had some scratches on one cylinder side. But it was a sheriff office turn from a seizure. I will look into the wolf spring.

^^^THIS^^^
A very serviceable stainless pistol. Mine is the 2" model and I would not hesitate to carry it anywhere under any circumstance. Yes, the same as a S&W 36/37 as a basic wheelgun, but the stainless gives it a certain "stoutness" that give you confidence. Every now and again I think about selling it, but when you only pay $125-150 for a gun, why would you?

I bought a 4 inch satin nickel in 1986 for $165.00 OTD. Nice little shooter except for the service stocks.
Correction mine was a model 82 and it was a five screw.
