Default AT84

Local pawn shop has a 9mm pistol. The slide says Mod. AT 84 Cal. 9 Para. Below that on the frame it says Solothurn SWITZERLAND. It has a Hi Power or CZ type look. It has a safety that allows cocked and locked but also has the capability of a long double action trigger. It's chrome or nickel slide over a blue frame. It's cosmetically challenged showing it's been banged around a bit.

Anybody familiar with these?

How much? The Swiss made guns have quite a following.

This is a very nice CZ clone, and the company became Sphinx later on. One of the few guns left on my "want very badly list". Is it any better than a real CZ or Tanfoglio clone? I don't know, but it sure looks nice. Shot one once, no problems.

Never owned one but from what I read at the time they are/were very well made, accurate and reliable.

It is a Swiss made CZ-75 style pistol. If I recall correctly, and this is from the mid-1980's, ITM bought all the parts from Tanfoglio, performed the final machining steps, assembly and finishing. They are basically TZ-75 Series 88 pistols, but with better machining, fit, and finish. Springfield Armory was doing the same thing, theirs was called the P9.

I bought one in the early '80's. It was "satin chrome" or somesuch finish. I remember ordering an extra magazine directly from the company (Magnum Research?). The gun had early Novak sights on it and was very accurate also 100% reliable. Not a big commercial success as only about 5,000 were imported. When "real" CZ 75's became available I put it on the market. Not much interest despite rarity, traded for a Glock 30. Don't have that one either any more. Joe

They are good guns. If it was in excellent shape and reasonably priced I'd say to buy it.
If it's cosmetically challenged it would have to be cheap. Like under $400.

I don't think I'm interested. This shop bargains so it could most definitely be had for less than the sticker. But I don't really need any more full sized pistols. I rarely carry duty size guns anymore. I'd kinda like it just to shoot but with current ammo prices and shortages I need to shoot what I carry.

Let me try a picture:

Action Arms AT84 - A CZ75 clone. I had one for a few years a decade ago. It shot well and I'd buy it back if I could. Well made and the CZ75 platform is a nice one for general purpose shooting/woods carry, etc.

That looks like a Sphinx more than any AT-84 I've ever seen or held. Maybe a transitional gun? I wish I had the $$$ to buy it.
