Some High Power Trivia
I never knew this about Serpico. He actually did buy a P35 at Jovinos and was the first NYPD member to carry one.

I‘m pretty sure in the reported dialogue the “14-shot clip” was just carelessness.
But I did have some aftermarket 14-rounders for my High Powers back in the 80s/90s. Don‘t recall who made them, they had a slightly extended bottom plate.

If I recall correctly, he was persona non grata with NYPD and chose the High Power specifically for the increased capacity.

That was the whole crux of the situation - a Department rife with corruption and a crusading detective working to clean it up.
Look up the Knapp Commission (plenty of Internet references out there) and you'll see what I'm talking about.
He was PNG with his colleagues - he got a medal from the Department!

Back in the day, as long as the officer had his approved .38 Special revolver with him no one really cared about anything else he might be carrying.

Chicago PD allowed their officers to carry an additional weapon of their choice in addition to their required 38 spl. Quite a few carried the P35.

Serpico
I used to ride the bus every day past Jovinos but I wasn't a gun guy then. His expose' of corruption in NYPD was a big deal but died out when the whole damn city was near bankruptcy. NYC was a mess in the 1970s.
