Folks, I have my brother-in-laws Detonics Combat Master .45 ACP.

Lots of feeding issues. I have researched and I think the mainspring(s) are weak.

It has the three springs captured (that is the oldest system, later it was two springs involved.) At least I see a tiny spring around the guide rod, a larger one, and then the largest... 3 spring, right?

Now, I see WOLF Springs makes a single replacement. BUT, it looks like it replaces the dual spring system.

Question is, will it replace the three spring system?

Thanks!

Sounds like you’re describing the recoil spring, not the mainspring. Call Wolfe Springs. They’ll probably know exactly what you need.

Without describing your malfunction issues, I’d hazard a guess the magazine is the issue. Get a full size Wilson magazine and see if that cures your reliability issue. Even if it does, you still need to replace the recoil spring regularly. Good luck.

What’s it exactly doing and are you shooting handloads or ball ammo? I have one and love it. Only use my handloads in it.

Tested with factory FMJ and factory JHPs. Mostly the bullets nose upwards into the feeding ramp (maybe slide does not to back far enough or round does not advance fast enough). A few times the slide stop engages before the last round is fired.

I notice also when cycling if the magazine is in place it makes some hesitation of the slide as it moves forward but without the mag it cycles very smothly.

I have both Detonics factory mag and a Wilson officers model mag and it has the same problems with either mag.

I wonder if a Colt Officers Model recoil spring will work?

This is an early ( ca. 1978 ) Combat Master. One of my favorite pistols. I've learned from other Detonics owners that the nested recoil spring needs to be in good shape. I did replace the recoil spring with a Wolff about 5 years ago after experiencing a few feeding issues. Gun is completely reliable now.:)

Your slide stop engaging early has nothing to do with ammo or mags, that's how you’re holding the pistol. Sounds like it might have weak springs, try some wolfs. Good luck.
