I can understand and agree. But remember that back then, milsurps were considered just that, common, cheap and numerous, so military surplus firearms for the most part, were not yet considered as much as collectables in their unmolested form, as they are now.

From 1992, when Glock was off and starting to take the LE market by storm. I bought this book when I purchased
my (then new) 2nd Gen G22.

Guns & Ammo Annual 1993. It seems funny that the .40 S&W is billed as "the ultimate stopper" and nowadays it has lost ground to the point people are claiming it is dead.

Yep... my thoughts too, especially when there was a flood of articles that predicted the demise of the 9mm, after the .40 S&W became the "darling" of LE, until the FBI did their flip-flop on the 9mm, and pendulum swung back the other way.
The same "people" were also busy shoveling dirt on the 10mm's grave... and look how that turned out.

Could discuss this subject all day. I went to the FBI Firearms Instructors Course not long after the "Shoot Out In Miami" that prompted their shift to the 10 MM and then to the 40 Cal.

Here are a couple of law enforcement-related books from the past.
Major Julian Hatcher's 1935 work titled "Firearms Investigation, Identification and Evidence together with the Textbook of Pistols and Revolvers".
The other is the revised 1957 copyrighted "Firearms Investigation, Identification, and Evidence" by Hatcher, Frank Jury and Jac Weller. The Forward to this edition was written by J. Edgar Hoover.

I'll play.
Gil Hebard guns from Illinois. While this issue is from 1986, I remember getting them in the early 80's when I was in high school.
This was like the Sears Christmas Wish Book to me LOL.
I picked a page for both the wheel gun guys and the fans of the bottom feeder.
We never ordered any guns from them but my Dad ordered some reloading stuff and other accessories.

Here's the Guns Digest Book of Holsters and other gun leather. My copy is in pretty rough shape as I had bought it off eBay. So here's an image taken from the internet. Sorry, but I cannot find a date on it anywhere. Amazon lists it as 1983.

Staying with Ruger for a moment, here is the 2001 Catalog. Also Massad AYOOB's "Greatest Handguns of the World" Volume 2.

Years ago I collected Lugers for a while and bought these excellent reference books by Jan Still. They are out of print now (and maybe not as pricey as Clawson' big 1911 Government Model books) but they seem to be "collectible" by themselves.

I have a copy of Clawson's big book. I do have this copy that I paid $42.21 shipped to me from Ray Riling in 2003 (receipt still in the book).
What is really wild is the asking price for one now.

Yup. Ray Riling Arms Books Co. was the place to go if you were looking for gun books - especially in my pre-internet years. His company sticker was inside each book they sold.
Ray Riling also wrote a book entitled "Guns and Shooting". It had a brief synopsis on every known gun, shooting, ammunition, etc. book published from 1420 to 1950. Only 1500 copies of the book were published. I was lucky enough to find one (on that on-line auction site) that had been culled from the Louisville Library collection.

I have discussed this on other threads and forums. The prices for reference books is astonishing! If you don't get them when they first come out, then be well prepared to pay long green for one. It just amazes me. I went through my reference book shelves and made a card for each book. I then showed my wife, daughter and oldest grandson what the values. Not to try to impress them, but to ensure that they do not get sold at a yard sale for $0.50 a book!

I'm also just discovering too that what I have amassed in 3 bookcases now amounts to a small fortune. I'm glad that I bought them when I did, otherwise I would not have many of them at today's prices.
Great idea about going through them and annotating their value, I did the same thing for my guns, coins and knives, it never occurred to me that I needed to do that for my books.

No AJ. No stock or shares in Ruger I'm afraid. Is the Ruger repetition getting to you like when I went crazy with the UZI ads on the 2021 Advertisement challenge? Lol. I'm just trying to be more orderly with my posts. March might be Browning HP month, April could be Sig month. During January, I was trying to upload S&W Semi-Autos until I ran out.
