SUSPEND THREAD? - #894 - 2022 Challenge - Magazine Cover per Day
UPDATE ON PAGE 18 Post #894 - SUSPEND THREAD???
Hi all
2021 saw a number of forum members follow and contribute to "Every day for this entire year I will post a old school printed gun advertisement".
Every day for this entire year I will post a old school printed gun advertisement.
AJ has suggested a new 2022 challenge in a similar vein. Instead of a printed Gun Advertisement, this time it will be to post a Gun oriented printed cover of a Magazine, Book, or Catalog per day.
I will try and keep an Excel Spreadsheet with how we get along. Everyone is welcome to contribute.
I'll start with my first three given its 3rd Jan 2022 here in Australia.

Moo Moo,
I could not resist. However, I will not post the volume we did before. I think that is what was burning me out on the last go around. That and the trying to keep track of what we had posted.

A fellow SWCA member just sent me this 1931 P.J. O’Hare catalog because it had a page of A.H. Hardy holsters in it.

Hmmmm.....I don't think that I have any really old gun magazine covers, I usually give them away and I bet that I lost a few in the 2018 fire. However, these two magazines were in my gun safe for obvious protection reasons and since they survived, and this is a firearms forum without too many restrictions, and these are, ARGUABLY, gun magazines, here goes - ENJOY!
Our Navy At War 1st and 2nd Reports 1944 1945
Enlisted personnel chart 1923 1943 2nd report
Enlisted personnel chart 1923 1943 1st report
Back cover 1st Report 1944
Back cover 2nd report 1945
And, for purists who must see guns in a gun Forum..........
A Battleship Bombing Guam
2nd report Navy fighters on sea and in the air guns visible for this Forum:
Now those are guns!!!!!!!!!!!!!

BIG BORE HANDGUNS!!
Hi MooMoo!
Great!.... right off these are some of my favorites under the heading of big bore handguns.
Each cover goes with a great article.
Many will know the Skeeter Skelton 24-3 issue.
But, the best, hands down (in my opinion) is the Howdah pistol article hinted to with the cover of Guns & Ammo May 1965!
I added one page from that article, just to tease y'all!

One of the more difficult Roy Jinks books to find...
And some more 10mm magazine issues:

[QUOTE=Gunhacker;141351915]This one is for you Moo Moo, being that American Handgunner is your favorite magazine. Long ago, it used to be "The American Handgunner"
Thanks for that.
Yes, despite many buy-backs and more law hoops to jump, there's more guns and shooters in Australia then there ever has been. That article you posted was from the late 1970's. It has gotten a lot more restrictive since then. Australian Gun Laws - Yes, we can own guns
Today's selection is a Winchester Big Game Rifle catalog cover. I could not find a year for it.

This month, some 34 years ago, we lost one of the great gun writers of our time on 17 January.
I'm of course, talking about the late Charles "Skeeter" Skelton.
To me, it sure doesn't seem like that it's been that long of a time, probably due to me having so many of his works to read and re-read.
I remember this March 1988 Shooting Times issue proclaiming "Skeeter's Back" when in actuality, he had already passed away, which I was completely unaware of.
I was so disappointed when I turned to page 44 and no Skeeter... that's when I realized, uh-oh, not good.
Next came the June 1988 tribute issue.
And then the books, which I've must of re-read a dozen times over the years, enjoying it each time as if it was the first time.
And his 1980 Shooting Times Special Issue.

"The Handloader Magazine"
Their covers used to always be artistically composed and photographed, especially in the 60s & 70s. It also used to be more of a journal.

Just handled one of his guns at the local gun shop. They sold it on auction, not sure what they got for it. Will see if I have it written down anywhere.

Mat,
The "Sir" thing is a southern thing. I was raised in Fl. if I did not say "Sir" was severely chastised! It is a manners thing. Just like you saying "Good Day, Mate".
At least we got some folks helping out this time!

American Rifleman March 1944. The Brigadier General on the cover is Merritt Edson. He won the MOH and was CO of one of the Raider Battalions. In 1951 he became the Executive Director of the NRA.

Today's offerings... the venerable S&W 4006, once the darling of law enforcement, now forgotten and ironically replaced by the caliber that it once replaced... the 9mm.
And another one for Moo Moo...
And here's a magazine that many people probably have never seen or even knew of it.

This mornings selection.
Handgunner was a UK magazine that appeared to go by the wayside after the 1996 Dunblane school shooting and subsequent outlawing of private citizen handgun ownership.

Way back when... when I was really into doing Cowboy Action Shooting (CAS), these two magazines were my favorites - Gun Games and Guns of the Old West.
Gun Games magazine only lasted a couple of years, which is a shame, because each issue showcased a celebrity shooter that was sure to surprise.
Such as....
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was into Cowboy Action Shooting and an avid collector of Winchester lever guns.
Before the L.A. County Supervisors banned them in 1999, there was a huge gun show called "The Great Western" that took place at the L.A. County fairgrounds in Pomona, CA. and it occupied 8 large buildings.
I used to make the 400 mile drive from NorCal with a friend to attend all 3 days of the show, it took that long to cover all of the buildings. I sure miss going to that gun show.
It was at one of those shows that we spotted Kareem a few rows over, looking at a table with a large selection of Winchesters.

The first magazine was an eye opener...my favorite picture in the magazine is the third one.

It was at one of those shows that we spotted Kareem a few rows over, looking at a table with a large selection of Winchesters.

Years ago there were two gun shows at the L.A. Fairgrounds. The "little" show was billed as 7.5 miles of tables. The "big" show was billed as 14 miles of tables. We use to go to the big show and truly took all three days to see all of it.

Today's selection is a magazine called "Guns and Survival" dated 1988. It's the only physical edition I've ever seen. It contains a great article by Mas Ayoob about clearing revolver malfunctions.
Clearing Jammed Revolvers - Mas AYOOB
In a quick Google search, I've only found two other editions. They appear to have been annual magazines.

The "little" show must of been the "Winter show" later in the year, that I never went to.
The "big" one was quite the spectacle, where you could find just about everything... do you remember the "Iraqi Jack" booth and his bikini clad women selling his calendars with equally scantily clad women with guns?

Today, we have 2 Shooting Times issues featuring three of my non-Smith & Wesson "Grail Guns".
The Ruger Buckeye Sports .32-20/.32 H&R Magnum Blackhawk and the Deerfield .44 Magnum carbine, which I've managed to acquire.
The Marlin 1894 32-20 classic continues to elude me... maybe, just maybe, Ruger will release one... Ha!!
