COLT 3" PYTHON NEW FOR 2022
Well it looks as though Colt has come out with a 3" Python - might be a huge success as many love that size. I need another Revolver like I need a hernia, but I actually might check this one out!
ALL the bugs have been worked out of the new Python and it is a strong, accurate, reliable and absolutely gorgeous Revolver (at least to me) and is IMHO going to be THE barrel length to seek out.
Woops, looks like I was beat to the punch with the post - Oh well, good intentions.

I had the 4" and I hated it for its trigger. Heavy single action break, extremely long DA pull and long reset. Smooth as glass, as they say. Just really really long glass and terrible SA.
The "bugs" are a design flaw that require a screw be held tightly in place. All it ever required was a strong thread locker to prevent the screw from backing out.
Imo, the trigger really sets the python up as DAO pistol. Maybe sell a spurless hammer option for carry. Still $1500.

And thanks' to you chief38, I was able to get one of the 3" by getting in line early! Thank you for that heads up by the way.
Just as nice, slick and smooth as the 4.25" too.
Can't get enough of this trigger, amazing!
Sorry, no family photos yet just these.
Really wished Colt had stayed with the detective grips these originally came with though, oh well still a piece of artwork.

May I quote you: Korths & Manurhins are nothing more than S&W copies, 99% of S&W revolvers leave the factory flawless, and the new Python's trigger is so bad that it should be considered a DAO gun.
We all love Smiths, but this kind of devotion should be reserved for loved ones.

You may, but I recommended use of quotation marks.
As much as I think a 686+ is the best handgun ever made, I also totally despise colt triggers and won't shoot an auto unless I have to. Wonder why all the fancy revolvers for $5 grand are smith clones.

Supposedly, I am on the waiting list. No idea when. Told it might take 6 months to a year.
If anyone who has a 3" LNIB has buyers remorse, message me, I will buy it.

I have a 2020 4.25 and a 2020 3 inch Python. I read the reports and reviews. I can’t believe what I read. Smooth double action, crisp trigger. Hard for me to believe reviewers that state that have actually handled these firearms. Both of mine had 6 plus pound single action trigger pulls and the grooves on the trigger are so sharp it’s painful to pull in double action. I’m still working on the single action pull weight and then I will polish down the trigger face. Do I like it, YES. But I should not need to do the work I am so the revolver is comfortable to shoot. And the grips are too narrow for the web of my hand. Hey, maybe it’s just me. And the sights.

Did both the 4.25 and the 3 come out in 2020? Thanks.

I believe that’s the nickname for the new model Pythons. I don’t think it’s model years like a car. Please let me know if I’m mistaken.

The three inch is new. I have a 4.25 and a 6. The 3" came out recently and is driving crazy prices but there is no indication that it is "limited." That being said I am on the list, and have seen a few, but I'm still waiting. My LGS says guys walk in all the time offering $2,500 but they don't play that game. I haven't even shot the two I have yet....

I looked at the 4.25" & a 6" today. Both brand new at the store. On the 4.25" the cylinder wouldn't even lock into place. The salesman & I monkeyed with the cylinder bolt & it started to work.
Some kind of Colt quality in my opinion.
Having said all that, I did like the feel of the gun in the hand.

I don't wonder at all. It's called "gun snobbery." Gun snobs love to brag about how much they paid for a gun, and are willing to shell out big for over-bloated custom pieces just to retain the privilege - after all, the American mentality is that "more expensive = more better!"
I would never pay more for any European revolver than I would for a Smith, (or COLT), and like most on this forum (I presume) I own my fair share of Smith & Wesson revolvers quite because they make such a variety! However, my experience with the NEW Colt Python is highly positive - DA pull through around 7 pounds, and a short, crisp SA break of around 5 pounds thanks to the need to meet CA drop standards, but you certainly KNOW that SA trigger can be reduced to a whisper breath release by a competent trigger man! I've NEVER felt a factory S&W DA trigger on par with the New Python, though my NEW Classic M25 is beyond very good DA right out of the box with a lighter, slightly crisper release SA - OOTB. I know they LOOK the same - or very similar, but the new Python is not simply a continuation of production, it's an entirely new gun with many clean-sheet changes, and it is without ANY doubt BETTER than the original! Time will of course prove this out I am sure.

Got my 3 inch Python yesterday evening. It is really nice, fit and finish. The only thing I don't like is the grips. I will replace them with a pair of service grips soon, because I think they look much better on the snubby revolver. I was also very surprised at the weight of the Python. It seems pretty heavy to me. I couldn't imagine shooting a Python, a S&W 586,686, or other full lug gun with an 8+ inch barrel!, but I still want a S&W with a long tube at some time.

Regarding the new Python and some of
its hiccups, failings, criticism of some of
its features, I keep in mind my recent
experience with a brand new S&W
Model 27 wth 4-inch barrel..
This fresh from the factory Model 27 had
an atrocious trigger well beyond 14 pounds
DA, single action not very good and the
signature checkering of the top strap and
barrel top was completely absent. In DA
the trigger would stick and then fly back only
under very heavy finger pressure.
I had to go inside, clean up the parts,
replace all the springs including the cylinder
release spring before the gun was usable.
Are all new S&W revolvers like this one?
I don't think so. But I hope you get my
point.

In my shooting group, at least 10 4” and 3’ pythons have been purchased. ALL have identical actions from the factory. DA is excellent and what you would expect from a Python. (They can be improved by a good gunsmith, but very acceptable out of the box). The SA on every one has been horrible. Extremely heavy and if you operate the gun SA very slowly you can actually see the hammer move BACK before it releases. I had a trigger job done on my 3” by a top notch gunsmith and he was shocked at the SA. I was mainly concerned about the DA which he made smooth as butter and in the process, the SA did improve but still is not good. Since I bobbed the hammer, I could care less. As far as the trigger, you are spot on. My finger hurt after 2k rounds. Why Colt made the serrations so deep and sharp is beyond me. I ground mine down and polished it smooth. Now irs a great gun.

Who did your trigger work? I like a smooth trigger too. I also wish it was wider.

Very nice improvements and I like those grips. I love the 3" on this Python and the 686 also. It's the "ideal" barrel length IMHO.

Here's a custom holster maker that I was referred to by another forum member. Was just browsing Nixon Leather's FB page and right at the top is a picture of new holster he's made for a 3 inch Colt.
