Great pair of AR-15A2's CLASSIC12. I have GOV'T MODEL GS 006873. They are hard to find here in high condition as well. Couldn't get my hands on my Gov't Carbine right now. Buried too deep. I also have a 6420 (tear drop FA) which don't come up for sale often. I too am a fan of Colts from that time period.

A shot of the 6420 for comparison.
A mix of A1 and A2 features.

Very nice. I recently traded my Match HBAR for something I wanted more. I shot competition with it for a few years. Really the only visual difference is my carry handle was detachable

I recently sold my ANIB green label H-BAR (R-6600) to a good friend who had offered his first born for it. I took cash because his first born was 37 years old. The 6600 is another fixed carry handle gun.

Nice AR’s, OP. My 6520 is the handiest carbine I have, less-is-more. Mine came with the neutered (half round) BCG so I replaced it with a Colt FA BCG and it’s good to go.

Very nice Colts! I've used an A2 as a match rifle for the National Match course since about 1986. It was competitive right out of the box.
After wearing out the original barrel, I upgraded it significantly and it still remains a solid shooter through 600 yards.
I hope that you enjoy yours as much as I've enjoyed mine.

Plain jane AR-15 is hardest to find. Seems like the AR cult guys want short barrels, sliding stocks, flat tops / rails, ect. I never had much use for them but due to social situation I bought one several months ago. The weight of it surprised me, heavier than M16s we had in RVn.
I agree a stocker should make sieve out of torso targets at 300yds. Mine is Palametto carbine, flat top/ detachable handle. I put M16 style buffer and stock on it. When it’s gets warm enough will see if it shoots good enough to keep. Up till I got it I had self loader 223 called #3 Ruger, 10x glass it’s good to 500yds on varmits.

Classic12 how do the Colts compare to the Swiss rifle in the same caliber?

Very nice OP, I have a pair myself (and an SP1 too). The 6550 Gov’t Model is a real gem and many AR folks don’t realize the scarcity compared to the much more common R 6600 HBar. In a full size, the 6550 is THE one to have IMO.

What is up with the take down pins? Been modified? Different from my pre ban H Bar Sporter.

Green Label guns and prior (pre-1990/91) had the large take-down pins unlike the more commonly seen Blue Labels.

AR15
I know Valmet but what I see is not the large screw head take-down. It looks like some sort of quick disconnect with 3 small ball bearings on the left side inside of a ring. Look close and you will see what I mean. Never seen a setup like that before. Maybe an export thing?

I see what you mean. Almost like a retaining spring like on an HK. None of mine have those, likely not factory.

Definitely not factory. Maybe a variation for Europe export.

No. Aftermarket.
The original SP1 and the early AR15A2's had the large take down pin. There was no "fence"with the spring detent take down pin like the M16A1.
This part was an attempt to improve the take down without using 2 screwdrivers.

Nice AR-15s you acquired. Mine are all Colts.
Here's the first one I had, back in the late 1960s. It started out as an SP-1, later upgraded with an M16A1 upper and buttstock.
The next one was an early AR-15 "Shorty," upgraded with later components to as close to an M4 carbine as I could cobble together.
Along the way, I purchased this AR-15 HBAR match model, which is as close to an M16A2 as I could get.
All are fine guns, and satisfy my desire to have AR models that mirror issue firearms as closely as possible.
I also traded into this nice AR-180, which at the time was pretty much state of the art, but now has become a collector item.
This Israeli Galil in .223 has been the only non-U.S. equivalent - just had to have one; they are quite robust and reliable, using the AK formula.
These guns kept me busy handloading ammo to feed them for quite a number of years!

KNS precision, bought them from Brownells.
They have a new model with the end closed, makes it easier to operate

I’m not sure, the stock trigger on the Sig 550 is better. With a Timney or Geissele on the Colt I think it can compete

Colt told me it was a 1988 Gvt Carbine R6520. It has all the attributes of it, but it has the previous markings of the R6420 (Sporter II)

Yes, and sear blocks. Those would be 6551s...much more common than 6550s.

My AR15A2. But not a Colt.
This is an original Bushmaster made in Windham Maine, not a Remington Ilion NY wannabe.
It has everything a USGI M16A2 would have, minus the 3 round burst option. Made in 2004 just after the idiotic AWB expired.
This rifle has the correct front take down pin, and no block like the Colts.
It's a keeper

My "AR15A1". Half Colt.
This is a Colt M16A1 upper paired with a Fulton Armory lower. USGI A1 butt stock and pistol grip.
This is before Nodak Spud made the reproduction M16A1 lower, so it is an A2 lower.
It may not show in the pics, but the lower is darker than the upper. And, that is correct, for some M16A1's.
My buddy had a genuine legal Class 3 H&R M16A1, and the lower was darker than the upper.
Maybe not as collectible as the original SP1, or some of the Green Label A2's, but I think that it's pretty cool

I prefer the older A1 versions myself. I have a couple clone mutts that are mostly Colt parts except for the receivers. Also have the parts needed to put together a carbine A1 after I retire in a couple years.

The differences between the 6520 and 6420 is not just the rear sights, but the straight Vs angled hand guard collar and tear drop Vs large button FA (later to become small button). I knew you would have a 6000.
