I got placed on a list several weeks ago to be contacted if the gun store received any new SA-35’s. Got the call Monday. Called back today to confirm that it was on hold. It was. They must have received several of them.

Does anyone know if these have a one piece barrel or a two piece like the original? Kind of looks like a one piece.

Pics: the old and the new!

As far as I know, they are one-piece barrels, perhaps made by Remsport as that company makes one-piece stainless Hi-Power barrels.

When was the HI Power offered in a 2 piece barrel?

Randy

My good friend and OGCA member is a pretty serious HP collector and he tells me the two piece barrels are actually made with a sleeve that is fitted over the chamber.

I contacted Springfield Armory. They stated that the barrel is one piece.

I also asked them about reported FTE issues with the SA-35. I was told that the development team investigates for issues of widespread function issues. There are reportedly no widespread function issues at this time according to SA "but rest assured, any issues will be covered by our Lifetime Warranty".

I'm on several different wait lists myself. Haven't heard from anyone yet. A Texas gun store said they were having FTE issues as well and they weren't going to receive any more until problems were corrected. Strange how all the online and half dozen magazine articles I've read have no mention of any problems using the full gamut of 9mm ammunition. I've always wanted a Hi Power and with the tweaks Springfield has done to the classic design I decided this is the one. Now if I can just find one that's not priced too far over MSRP. And to think an almost hundred year old design single action, exposed hammer, heavy all steel framed, wooden gripped pistol would be as popular as it is. Maybe some of us are getting tired of the latest plastic fantastic striker nines.

I was able to purchase mine for the MSRP of $699 (+tax). I too like the upgrades done by Springfield Armory. I sold my 1976 Belgium Hi Power with parkerized finish to purchase this one.
The FTE issues seem to happen around 750-800 rounds.

The SA-35 is a classic that IMHO is in many respects better than the original. Can't wait to get my hands on mine. Probably not until this Sunday.

I'm very interested in the Springfield SA 35 but am not willing to pay $1000 or so that I regularly see them going for at present . Too much of a mark up over the $699 MSRP ! I will wait until the prices come back down. Also I would need to see and handle one in person first .

Unfortunately, there are scalpers in the firearms world too. They prey upon those who are desperate to buy.

The ones I see have been on GunBroker where people are willingly bidding them up to those prices. I wouldn't call the sellers scalpers. No one is being coerced into bidding. I know I'm certainly not,,,I refuse to pay those prices and will simply wait .

Many, if not most, of those SA35 pistols on GB are being sold by local gun shops and dealers who are paying wholesale price and then listing them on GB where they know they can get significantly more than MSRP, rather than selling them at MSRP to their local customers.

Most of those GB listed pistols have starting bids around $1000 or are straight up “buy now” listings with $1100-$1500 buy now prices. Those listings are clearly price gouging.

There are a few “no reserve” auctions, but virtually all of them have been selling somewhere between $930 and $1075 dollars. That might seem like an honest free market, but it’s easy to manipulate. For example, the buy it now SA35 pistols for $1100-$1500 serve two purposes. First they provide immediate gratification for the guy who wants an instant purchase at a known price, even if that price is excessive. Second they set a “perceived” value with a floor at $1100, even if those buy it now guns never sell.

So of a seller lists one as buy it now at $1100, and then lists another as “no reserve” and a $1 opening bid with a 14 day auction he can still rest assured it will bring in at least $200 over MSRP as it makes it look like $900 (plus shipping and CC fees) is a deal.

Are people stupid enough to fall for that? Obviously. But it’s still dealers price gouging.

If the majority of gunowners would just refuse to pay the excessive amount over list, it would show the dealers that they are not willing to play their silly game. I know that I won't play their game. Let the guns sit for several months and see if they change their tune.

This would be something I'd consider if I were in the market for a SA 35. It's the BPSpringsolutionsPA35 video on YouTube. Hope that SA is addressing these issues.

Same with ammo. If we took a month off from buying you’d see how fast the prices would come down.
