Colt Black Army - The Pre War Collection Grows
Gunshow today. Cruising for a couple of hours and I with several C&R revolvers I've been meaning to sell in tow. Just some shifts in my collecting interests.
Been looking at Colt pre war 1911s and low and behold...I met a seller who was interested in getting into pre war revolvers.
So some friendly conversation ensued and I did a solid swap for a Colt Black Army from 1918. It's a matching gun with the exception of a very nice WW2 High Standard barrel and an A1 elongated grip safety.
Below are a couple of "glamour shots" and one with some previously owned cousins...Model M Hammerless in 32 and 380. Need a 1908 .25acp I'm thinking but still...
Life is good.
Anyone else like "The Pony's" from WW1, WW2, and between?
(sorry for the crummy cell pics, they look better in person)

Very very nice! All of them, but I especially love the 1911!

Congrats on your new score. The finish looks way better than my Black Army. I am assuming yours has a refinish. The grips certainly show honest wear for the old pistol. The finish on Black Army pistols lacked the durability of the early M1911's. Mine has a significant loss of bluing along with wear to the grips. I want to think mine has original sub-components but who knows. It does have an original inter-looping HP barrel showing some interior pitting, possible from caustic primers, of the early days.
The old two tone magazines are getting quite valuable and hard to come by.

Thank you lamarw (and everyone else).
I'm pretty sure it has seen a refinish, but it was done VERY well with attention paid to not removing or blurring rollmarks and acceptance stampings. Almost to the level of a restoration imo. In any event, it's been well done.
I'm much more a shooter than a true collector so I'm not much bothered by any of that, and the price was commiserate.
I'm happy to acquire and look forward to a range session (it's not a rattle trap either) and comparison with some other guns of the era.
Here's a couple more "glamour shots".
