ID Help on Old Dagger / Arkansas Toothpick?
This caught my eye in Tulsa last week. Guy who was selling it said he was told Scottish. Another guy looked at it and said Confederate.
No marks that I could see on blade. Dog's head carved on end. Top of dog's head has a narrow oval slit as if something was inserted or inset.
I'm clueless on this one so any guidance would be appreciated.
Edit: The guard is iron.

It looks pre Civil War to me. There are some really good videos on bowie knives on youtube.

That is definitely an Arkansas Toothpick. I am guessing it is civil war vintage more or less but that is a personal guess rather than a semi-professional estimate. I have no idea how old the style is.

I would speculate that is a 19th Century German hunting dagger. Possibly a WW2 bring back. The furniture and cross guard are not typical of US manufacture in that time period and the dog-head grip is typically German. It is to showing a "made In" country of origin stamp so it would have been imported before 1890, unless it is a "Bring Back" from one of the wars or a tourist.
These types of knives were very popular in the War of Northern Aggression, 1860-1865, although most documented examples are pretty crude blacksmith products, some did come in from European cutlers.
