Colt Guys: are these grips correct?
Colt guys: do you think these grips are correct for an early-1970s Detective Special?

They sure appear kind of clunky and crude and I much prerfer what is on the revovler now. Still, I'd like to hang onto the ones above if they really belong with the gun.

Correct for the shrouded ejector rod DS.
Think they were used on other different revolvers as well.

They are probably correct for the version that has a shrouded ejector rod, introduced around '72, I think. For the earlier version without the shrouded ejector rod, they might fit (though I don't know this for sure) but they're not the right stocks for that gun.

The earlier DSs have a longer grip frame and will not accept that style of grip.

Look exactly like the ones that came on my 1974 3rd Issue Detective Special.
The ones that came on the late 1970s 4th issue Police Positive also look like that, but are just a tad bit longer. From what I understand, those are worth some serious money.

They will also fit pre 72 guns with the short grip. My 94 DS and 69 DS grips are interchangeable.

Those grips will fit the grip frame on the 1966 and later D framed Colts including the Diamondback. They used a shorter grip frame than earlier models.
They will also fit the "new model" Colt Cobra -

Being all steel they probably should have called it the Detective Special. A nice gun regardless, despite the misshapen trigger guard.

I wound up taking the wood grips off my 1973 v3 and putting Pachs on it. I find rubber fit my hand better and are much more comfortable although they’re not very attractive. My brother did the same in his.
There are repro wood grips that fit and look like the v1 & V2 wood grips. They’re very nice looking and probably would be more comfortable in my hand. I’ve not been able to find a set though but Colt made a retro version of the new Cobra with wood that looks like the V1 & V2 grips.

As others have said yes for the shrouded version of the DS and Cobra And I believe Agent. My unshrouded 1972 cobra had the original short butt grips shipped with the D frames from 1966 up to the shrouds while my 74 shrouded DS had your style.I have a late 70s Police Positive special shipped with similar grips ,only the groove seen around the checkering on yours is not present on my positives grips.
