Default Ithaca 37

Last may I bought this nickel Ithaca model 37 Featherlight DSPS (Deer Slayer Police Special) from a private seller for $ 600. Built in 1981, almost new, shiny and pretty and a lot of fun to shoot

It has the somewhat bizarre Raybar front sight

Around the same period I saw a parkerized model 37 Featherlight made in 1976 for sale at the LGS, which was double the price. Six months later it was still there, I had a few late night drinks with the owner of the LGS and we struck a deal at $ 1000. Not cheap but those model 37 are as rare as hen’s teeth here in Switzerland.

I like having a pair of those

I am a big fan of having "sets" of guns. Great acquisitions, especially the nickel model.

I LOVE that nickel one.

I have two Ithaca 37s at the moment, but only one is photographed. This was a duty gun with the Seminole Department of Law Enforcement (Tribal Police)

When our Director retired a new "Kid" was hired out of college to replace him. One of the first things he did was trade in our Ithaca Model 37s for Remington 870s . . . because the 870 was a REAL Police shotgun. I gave them the cash equivalent of the trade in value so I could keep this one.

The 37 is one of, if not my vary favorite, fighting shotgun

My second one has a 1x to 4x scope on it and has been done up in Camo. One day I will drag it out for a photo

Those are very nice. I had one like the top one years ago. It came from a suburban Chicago PD and the barrel was FULL of cigarette butts and candy wrappers. Good thing they never had to fire it. I gave it to a friend when he moved away.

I now have a Deerslayer with an additional field ribbed barrel.

You might consider recoil pads on both.

Oh man, unlike GT80 I want BOTH of those. Beautiful shotguns. And just plain cool.

Best smooth bore factory slug gun made. Later guns came with extra front sight in black. Personally I don’t like the Flo sight for slugs.

Some day that "KID" is going to get his backside handed to him because it is apparent he has the intellect of a small ant found in bathrooms. And I really hate to insult small ants found in bathrooms or any other location where they might gather.

Had one of the nickel guns, it’s replacement is coming soon.

Mine shot between 2 & 3” groups at 50yds with slugs.

I used to take mine to the trap range for fun. Good to work on my speed with. As fast as you can find the bird with that orange sight, bang, score. Hesitate, and it was a miss.

I grew up with a 37 Featherweight in 12 ga. No recoil pad! It was not fun to shoot as a young teenager.
The Deerslayers ARE very accurate with the right match of ammo.
