Default Call me confused, but….

I see that at least one manufacturer is infusing tungsten into their polymer frames to add weight. From a few ounces originally to almost a pound with the tungsten!
I don’t get it. Why not make it out of steel or at least aluminum if you want to make it heavier?
I imagine it’s all about the cost of manufacturing, but I thought the big advantage to polymer frames was weight savings and ease of carrying all day.
Confusing

From an article on the subject: Now, you are probably asking why not to go with a steel frame if you want it to be as heavy as steel? According to SIG, the advantage of the TXG tungsten-infused grip module is that it combines the weight of steel with the flexibility of the polymer. The stripped TXG grip module weighs about a pound which makes the overall weight of the pistol 43.5 ounces. The company claims that the muzzle flip in this gun is reduced by up to 50%.

It may provide some flexibility but is that needed in a 9mm? Maybe it helps for a competition type pistol.

Probably also cheaper than an all-metal gun.

It's all about speed in competition. Machining metal is an expensive business. If you can include the metal in the polymer forming process, you get the speed and ease of plastic molding and the weight of metal without the expense of a CNC machine.
