Default Custom Trapdoor

I've been trying to talk a buddy of mine out of this Trapdoor he built years ago, it his take on the early Gemmer Trapdoor Mountain Rifle. Based on an early 50/70 receiver, custom barreled in 45-70...I'm fond of Sharps rifles but have had the hots for this one on first viewing ten years ago. There were some last minute adjustments he made the other day including hardening the hammer nose. He made the entire lock, triggers, hardware...I'ts never been shot, I am doing that tomorrow.

I love it! And pretty classy with that crescent butt. .50-70 would be cool, too. Truly one of a kind and something someone could have done in the later 1800s.

Nice rifle. An old co-worker scored a buffalo hunt some years back. He put together a 50/70. Big thumper.

Standard 45/70 Trapdoor load 500 gr. roundnose, 65gr. 1-1/2 Swiss. First shot was at 7:00, made a couple corrections and ended with the two doubled close to center. Shot at 50yds, it shoots like a dream...just a little stiff, as would be expected off the bench.
