Exclamation Another GB Auction Head Scratcher

Every now and then I go on the big site and look to see what certain guns I own are selling for. I searched Walther P99

One was a P99AS Walther. Nothing special, newer gun decent condition. Original case, 2 mags. had grip tape on it, which is a turn off to me. But whatever. Otherwise identical to mine, but mine is LNIB.

Bid started at $399.

Ended at $1550

I know that the P99AS is discontinued, but come on! It's a common pistol, and there were others listed for bid.

Now, I'm not under the illusion that I would get the same for mine (it's not for sale anyway).

But you have to wonder what drives someone to spend double what the gun is actually worth.

Adding in shipping, fees, and transfer I'd guess the final tally with be around $1700.

Wow.

"Auction" is just a different spelling of "lottery" all too often. In this case I'd be surprised if the seller gets their money. On the flip side, I've scored collectible stuff off GB at very reasonable prices for no reason other than good luck.

After 10 years of loose money, low interest rates , runaway stock market and high oil prices, I am seeing a lot of ridiculous prices and not just guns.
Let's wait for higher rates , bear stock market and recession to take effect
and see if these prices do not reverse.

Again an inflated price by a bidder with very few (2) feedbacks.

Top two bidders had 2 and 17 feedbacks.

This seems to be a trend.

With the recent downturn of the stock market I am watching to see what some items do on the on-line gun auctions. A 17 % drop in the DOW YTD might have a negative effect on sales. I hope not as I have several in an on-line auction coming up this month. ? Timing.
