Default Sphinx At2000H

So I was browsing the local gun trader and came across this gun a Sphinx AT2000H. I messaged the seller on a whim and we struck a deal and are supposed to meet tomorrow. I know a little about them but as I was born in 89 I kinda missed the window on these guys. From what I read this particular model, the most compact version, was discontinued in 96. I had been looking to trade for a CZ and instead came up with this Sphinx. Is there anywhere to look up production numbers or dates? The owner said it’s been in his grandpas safe for 20 years and I believe him. I can’t even find a review for this particular model online and that’s really unusual, I can find reviews for all sorts of weird and older guns, and I can find them for the larger models. I’m pretty excited to pick it up, I didn’t even know I wanted one till yesterday.

Congratulations! I can’t help you with your questions but I have read for years that these pistols are high quality and seemed to be held in high regard by those who own them.

Thanks. It seems really well made. Pics don’t really do it just. But after handling it for a lil it’s a pretty amazing little gun. The single action is so smooth and there’s no wall, the break is a surprise every time. Super light too. It’s not like a smith action of course, more travel in SA. But probably the nicest trigger of any gun I’ve owned. I’m very impressed with everything about it. I wasn’t sure how I was going to feel about it.

I have one that looks identical except for being marked Sphinx 2000 (no AT marking). It is also a precision built pistol, as one would expect from being "Made in Switzerland."

The double action is smooth but not particularly light, but the single action is a thing of beauty. Mine takes CZ magazines and that slide running inside the rail is very smooth. Mine is not import marked and I haven't researched the serial number in an attempt to ascertain its date of manufacture.

This is one of my "Always have wanted" guns. Both the pictured one and a fullsized one. I shot one a long time ago, a AT2000S? and have wanted one ever since. I have numerous CZ clones, but no classic Sphinx's, but I do have a Sphinx SDP.

I didn’t have enough experience to know I wanted one. I was looking at CZ p01s which are very similar. But this is definitely a well made firearm. I was thinking of taking it to the gun store and comparing them side by side. The only note I have is the Sphinx beaver tail digs into my right hand a lil. I have noticed that my right and left are slightly different and most fit my left perfectly but for whatever reason don’t feel as good in the right. The Glock grooves are like that, milspec 1911 beaver tails, a lot of compacts fit the left better. But I’m right handed. The Sphinx is beautiful and I think for now Im going to hang on to it. The whole trip to pick it up I was trying to decide if I wanted to trade it for one of the many other guns I want or sell it. But after handling it and of course a little because it’s probably only going to go up in value I think I’ll keep it. That single action is just so good.

I let you know when I shoot it. Cost. Well one 1911 I had made, which I had made for 29-2 with cokes I paid $1650 for. The 1911 was nice but being a custom made one off gun from an area gun smith was not particularly valuable to any one but me. And I never used it. This seemed like my best chance to get my money back out of it and both me and the other guy I gave it to seemed very happy with the deal. He googled it and knew the Sphinx was worth some money but it didn’t really have any value to him. I might have been able to get it for a RIA or a Taurus 1911 if I had one. But something about the Sphinx just grabbed me. I knew it was supposed to be top of the line. I’ll surely get back to you all when I shoot it. Something about the way the palladium catches the light I just love it. It’s like platinum.

How many rounds does your magazine hold? I’ve seen some people say it’s a 10 round magazine, mine is 12. It’s interesting I’ve read CZ mags work but they are 10 round mags as well.

As they say in the sports world, "upon further review" my pistol may have a longer barrel than the model you have. My lack of expertise and knowledge is showing, but I assumed that the grip length and magazine used is the same.

Yeah that looks like either the police special which was the compact or the full size.

I have never owned or shot a Sphinx but they went out of business and came back to market as Phoenix.

I have one of the Phoenix Redbacks and they are the very best CZ design pistol made in my opinion. Very expensive but worth it.

I ordered it optic ready and have a Trijicon SRO for it.
