I read a recent article pertaining to the Czech company CZ buying Colt, does that mean Colt who supplies firearms to our military and law enforcement agencies is now a foreign owned company?

Don't worry about it.

The Army's new rifle and
squad machine gun are
going to be supplied by
SIG Sauer, a German
company.

At one time Belgium supplied
the M16.

Pistols before now and now
also supplied by foreign
owned companies.

Generally contracts require
the weaponry be produced in
the US but not always.

I did not say it was a bad thing, maybe it is, maybe it is not, I was just curious.

Colt CZ Group

Very interesting, Thanks Rusty. So now there is no more just Colt, it is Colt CZ Group. I was surprised because the issue of the NRA magazine I just received, June I think, there was an ad for Colt revolvers and don't think I saw any mention of CZ, guess those ads will be changing in the future.

I must say the fit and finish on my two new Pythons is outstanding. I had one of the better shooters in my club shoot the 6" and he shot a very small group with it.

Sounds like Colt will be learning a thing or two from CZ about manufacturing firearms.

I know it was not originally designed by Colt, but if the M16 I was issued in Vietnam in 1969 was manufactured by Colt, it just was overall a disappointing firearm. There were times when I wish I had the M14 that I trained with.

It would have been great if CZ bought Colt back in the 1960s, they probably would have corrected some of the problems before the M16s got into our hands for use in the jungle.

Some experts on the M16 will
comment, I'm sure, but the
weapon was basically sound.
However the Pentagon under
Secretary McNamara managed
to muck it up with cost cutting
orders for its design, type of
ammunition.

Long read, but very informative! M-16: A Bureaucratic Horror Story - The Atlantic

And I see a .22 version of python/diamondback is now being offered.
The pics I saw did not impress me, vent rib and barrel dont look the same, the trigger guard profile has been altered, it has rubber grips and it is not blued and its 10 shot not 6.

CZ bought the name "Colt" along with the business. They can continue to use the name "Colt" without modification. If they make it outside the US they will have to mark the county of manufacture, with a lot of fine lines and exceptions involving parts and assembly.

It‘s unlikely, since CZ is just the corporate parent, and I‘m sure the marketing will continue to leverage the Colt brand, and not switch to a lot of “CZ-Colt” models. To draw a parallel to another traditional American business, how many people know that Jim Beam is Japanese, Wild Turkey is Italian, and George Dickel is British? ;)

I doubt it. The Ordnance Board was driving the bus from what I've read.

Go back and look at the Ord Board and the demise of the 7 mm UK Bullpup, plus the evolution of the FN in 0.308, to say nothing to the 30-06 for the Garand rather than its original calibre. Dave_n

Maybe without Colt's political connections the Stoner 63 would have been the weapon selected to replace the M14 and not the M16.
