Default Buying & Selling

In light of the past week or so, I pretty much have put a hold on selling anything until I see how things shake out.

Was thinking about downsizing the herd of handguns but now I'm not too sure.
Got no problems selling off the AK and the AR for the right price as I have capable "non weapon of war" alternatives with which to launch the 5.56 and 7.62x39 projectiles.
Big issue is trying to find rimmed centerfire revolver cartridges.
Down to 3 .22 revolvers and 2 .22 pistols-think I'll keep those.

Anyway what are other's thoughts?? Time we start to think about what "non threatening" firearms we own. I'm serious about this-the rhetoric is pretty much black plastic pistol grip-BAD. Deer gun that looks like your Daisy Red Ryder-CUTE. Pretty much a sad reality

Was also considering thinning the herd, but have decided, as you have, to put it on hold unless I am offered crazy money.

Not sure if I will make any acquisitions but I will not let a good deal pass.

If I don't need the money, I'm not selling it - they aren't eating anything.

And I don't need the money.

I am getting ready to move so have been selling off parts of my collection prior to that.

Nothing I own now is on their list except possibly two Glock semi-auto pistols but they are both ten rounds so it will likely be awhile before they come for those. Priorities.

My ARs are nothing special to me, this might be a good opportunity to get rid of them. I only have 2 polymer pistols, an M&P 9c and a LCP, again, nothing special.

The stacks of bolt actions and revolvers are another story. If we don't fight for the guns that mean the least to us, we will have lost the fight for the guns that mean the most to us at that same time!

Interesting topic. I have a couple of WW1 vintage 9 mm. pistols. I am thinking about those based on the President's latest remark. I have a number of 7.65 autos from the same era, that are probably under the radar here, but not in Canada. But I am not sure I have enough 32 auto cartridges to load them all out :-)
Two 45 ACP and adequate ammo, but those could be at risk.

I am considering the anomaly that they likely will come after my son's AR15 but not the M1 or 1917 Endfield, Between him and me we have adequate 30:06 ammo.

The flintlock rifles are in good shape (look ma, no primers) but they do depend on Black Powder which could be a candidate for regulations

I bought a lot of 22 rimfire from the CMP. That may have been dumb luck.

Not planning on selling anything.

I'm discarding all of my 9mms. I can't take the chance that someone's lung will get blown out. .357 sounds much safer.

Over the years I have accumulated equipment for sports and activities in which I no longer engage. For the past two or three years I have been slowly selling it or passing it on to deserving young people's parents/guardians. This will continue. I have nothing in the "ultra-lethal" calibers, nor any desire to acquire them. Yesterday I choked down the opportunity to acquire at a good price a gun I had wanted for several years because I can't reload fast enough to feed what I already have in that caliber. None of this was based on the current political climate.

I don't know how to figure all this, but apparently no one else can either.

I haven't bought a gun in six or eight years, just no longer have any real wants, but have sporadically been selling some at gun shows over the past four or five years. I did a big gun show about a month ago; how things have changed. I easily sold six handguns and five rifles ranging in price from $600 to $2000. Not nearly as much dickering as in the past; scopes, brass, bullets, etc. were also in demand and sold well.

Very few attendees brought ARs to sell or trade, very unlike past shows. Whether that was because of the possibility of future government action or the fact that AR prices are down, or maybe both, I don't know.

I tried ARs for several years and found no attraction or usefulness. As a result, I have three Colt ARs I wanted to sell, but with prices as they are, I'll wait. I'm pretty sure the AR copies are down in price even more than the Colts.

Not planning on selling anything. If you’re thinking about a rifle that never seems to show up on the list of “bad guns” pick up an M1 Garand. No muzzle device, pistol grip, detachable magazine or folding stock - nothing to upset the folks that are so concerned about our welfare. And it carries 8 rounds of .30-06 power. Carried by a knowledgeable person, it will run almost as fast as an AR and it will shoot through a 12” tree or a truck, unlike the 5.56, with no problem. Maybe instead of selling we should think about smart buying.

I have never based my buying/selling trends on anything the talking heads say in D.C.

The only thing I agree on with the present occupant of the WH is the shotgun makes a dandy self defense weapon.

I've sold a few unwanted ones over the last couple of weeks, but the proceeds are going to fund another "can't live without" item.

You would think that the folks who want to ban "weapons of war" would know a little something about the "Greatest battle implement ever devised."
Thank heavens Mr. Garand didn't use black wood.

Default Selling?

I would be more concerned with some state's actions, than the national level.

If any are as corrupt as NY, then watch for laws passed at midnight that instantly criminalize something you have had for years, then they demand you register it. Makes it difficult to sell. Just sayin'.

Default Buy, buy, buy..

I wouldn't sell anything....! I would buy guns and ammo if priced correctly...... You don't have to feed guns, and ammo is good for a long time.... better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it!

My wife's horses cost every month for board. Add to that vets and blacksmith fees and they cost a bundle.

My boats use no gas when not used, but even if they sit in the garage they still consume insurance premiums.

My guns are pretty to look at and cost absolutely zero in the safe. Since I don't need the money, no reason to sell.

If for some reason they all become illegal, then I'll gas up the boat and send them to the deep blue. That's a better alternative to turning them in.

Now..........OTOH.........if it comes to that my prediction is that the first amendment will fall soon after, and hopefully I'll be dead by then.

Right now my want list is very small and consists of just a few out of production, hard to find and mostly out of my budget items. Anything new I buy will be strictly opportunity and impulse.

I've given a lot of thought to selling. I'm not worried about them being banned and I don't need the money. But I'm considering it to save my sons the trouble of dealing with my collection when I'm gone. But, I think I'll put that off for a few years yet.

There is an estimated 20 million AR’s in public hands so it is doubtful in the worst of times anyone will get rich selling one… I would be more worried if the powers to be decide to make an AR, etc NFA weapons with a grace period to register then a tax to transfer. Then you either got papers or contraband.

Cool Norwegian Resistance Redux

Not planning on selling anything. Talking Heads can
threaten all they want.

I’m with Wyo above. I’ve been looking at the M1 Garand
in 30-06 and the modern Browning BAR in 308, and
not ruling out the Remingtons. My AR15 is accurate
but my least favorite firearm, nothing special.

In April 1940 the Nazis invaded Norway. My Great
Great Norwegian Uncle was part of the Resistance.
As the story goes he was a Farmer and Hunter, and
Gun Enthusiast, he buried his gun collection somewhere.

So when the time comes I will Resist and do what
Uncle did, in addition deny, deny, and deny
I have anything.

The Best to you and your Endeavors.

Don't sell any pistols, whatever you do. I made the mistake of selling two 1911's last year and I regret it now. What was I thinking.

Never owned an AR so no worries there. I do have a Ruger Mini-14 but I'm keeping that. It doesn't have a "shoulder thing that goes up" nor will it shoot "heat seeking devices". I think I'm safe for awhile.

Am glad i got lever actions in pistol calibers when they were cheap. And all the supplies to reload for them. A small (16 in barrel) 44 mag with good recoil pad is a pleasure to shoot mid level 180 jhps. Years ago, even my mother with no firearm experience(in her 80's) could quickly be trained to hit silhouette up close. Lots to be said for a light lever rifle with open sights right over the bore.

Same load in 4 in revolver =1250 fps, and 1500 fps in 16 in rifle.

Ain't gonna sell any firearms till i hafta.

Default Seriously?

When I think of the awfulness of my 9mm handguns and their ability to blow out lungs whilst my non-lethal .22s are survivable because the bullets lodge in lungs I just can't bring myself to part with anything - and those ugly black rifle, well! HMPH! They're so ugly I sometimes won't open my safe for fear of becoming nauseated - y'all understand, right?

Everyone knows that black rifles are capable of independent action and cannot be trusted.

I hope that you wear body armor when you have to open that safe.

Selling, well, no.

I have posted before as we have no children, and no relatives who would want more than maybe a gun that was their Dad's or Granddad's, I have to do something with the accumulation.

But now isn't the time. I don't know when that will be, but it's not now.

As to having "friendly" rifles in common military calibers, yes I do. But not because I'm thinking long game here. If the antis manage to get MSR's banned outright (which I doubt), or on the NFA Registry (again which I doubt), the next thing would be those plain old hunting rifles would become "high powered sniper rifles" and the next to be banned. That's the end game. NO guns.

Anyway, I picked .223/5.56, 7.62x39, .308/7.62 NATO and .30-06 since I have plenty of ammo in those calibers.

So, respectively, I have a Ruger Hawkeye, CZ527, Ruger American, and a USGI and a sporterized M1903A3

Hopefully we have regime change in November, which will quiet a lot of the antis down.

But they're like cancer. They may go into remission, but they come back. And they are Terminators. They are relentless.

JMHO YMMV

PS - I bought a "refurbished" PPK, will pick it up this weekend.

So much for culling the herd

Holding tight. This too shall pass. Perhaps noisily, but it shall pass.

Exactly.

Remember, any ammunition that can penetrate a standard police ballistic vest (just about every single rifle caliber) is a "cop killer bullet".

Any handgun that can load more than 10 rounds (seven in NY) are dangerous and the preferred weapon of gangbangers.

Any small, compact handgun that can be concealed is a "pocket rocket".

Semi autos are all assault weapons... as are guns with thingies that go up and evil ghost guns "This right here has the ability with a .30-caliber clip to disperse with 30 bullets within half a second. Thirty magazine clip in half a second."

Scoped rifles are sniper weapons.

Polymer framed handguns are specifically designed for terrorists to foil metal detectors.

Black Talon HPs are evil and we need safer bullets

9MM's will blow your lungs out.

And it never stops. Nor will it ever stop.

I hope you’re right, but I’m ABSOLUTELY POSITIVE that Ivan is right! I’m not selling nothin’ and I may break down and buy a new S&W just to spite these lunatics. I am so fed up with our legislative/law enforcement/“justice” system I can’t even muster a squeak. Everything imaginable - except seriously address the problem.

Pick the gun, and the anti-Second Amendment people will have an excuse as to why we shouldn't have it. I suspect that if you asked them at what point they will stop seeking to ban firearms and leave us alone, all you'll get is crickets.

If I fired my Civil War muskets, I'd probably get castigated for "environmental crimes" for creating all the smoke.

Here in NY the “Safe Act” passed in the middle of the night (literally) in 2013. Tons of restrictions and nonsense. Funny thing is, I NEVER wanted an AR until they told me I couldn’t have one. Now I have a 300 Blackout. These moronic laws and politicians have sold more guns than they’ve eliminated.

I've been downsizing so my wife won't have to deal with the collection when I expire. But I have a wood stocked Mini 14 Ranch Rifle and five magazines on the way as it seems to fly under the radar. I will keep my M1A as well.

And the anti-Second Amendment people have a staunch ally in the media. Thus the propaganda gets full coverage and exposure as does the lies and hyperbole. When we combine this with the abject ignorance on the subject by the general populace it only gets worse.

The gun owners that "don't mind" certain limits and bans are only playing into the hands of the anti second crowd.

I am not selling anything yet. All I have are old hunting rifles. Single shots, lever actions, couple of old bolt guns. Hardly anything that would be on the politicians radar…………………………..
😳 Wait, what? How did that get in there.

I am not worried too much at the moment. I just hope they let me keep my 122 year old Krag.

The same thing happened to me in 1994. Turned out I couldn't have just one.

Clinton's ban was actually a joke. Without it, thousands of "Assault Rifles" would have been sold. With it, after hack sawing off the bayonet lug, MILLIONS were sold. The worst part, though, is that to this day so many people still think that the ban really banned anything.

I have no current plans to sell or buy anything.
I have considered writing my congressman about minimum qualifications for counselors and the necessity of following up those who threaten others, but doubt it will come to much.

Well I can tell you with 100% certainty that the incidents of drive by bayonetings dropped to ZERO during that period.

Oh, and we had no drive by rifle grenade shootings either.

Same here.......keeping what I have for now.

But I am still buying ammo. Beginning to find some at reasonable prices.
