US Navy Knives, Mk I/2/3
Here is a modest group of Navy issue knives. I think the MK 2 (center) beats it's cousin, the M3 hands down.

When I was a kid we had 3 Mk. 1s. Over the years they disappeared. Wish I still had at least one.

I have the bottom one, with scabbard. Paid $8 for it in 1973 at a surplus store. Holds a good edge.

You really need a pilots survival knife in there. I still have the same one which I bought in the mid 60's on my ship. Frank

Nice pieces. Given away most of my blade collection to son and grandson, less to deal with. Have an almost mint M-3 and several bayonets and a nice F.S. and couple of Gerbers.

I like the Mk3. It’s serrated edge is beveled making it easier to saw with. I don’t like the thinner hand guard/bolster of the Mk2. My favorite knife by far is the Cattaraugus 225Q.

My favorite is Dad's knife (USN '43-'46), Electricians Mate. He created grip & a friend tooled on the sheath. It will be his Great-Grandsons someday.
For day-to-day utility, The MK-3 is pretty handy

I managed to acquire a few of those over the years. Now I don't know if the Navy has their own variation of the Pilots Survival Knife but this is what we were issued. MIL-K-8662E. This one is dated 5-91.

I also have a pilot knife. A friend was stationed on the U.S.S. Ticondaroga back in the early 70's and he got me one of those knives. I "think" he worked in the supply room.

It's a shame that the Navy never formally adopted the Buckmaster 185, now that was a knife, a very rare, very expensive knife which would have otherwise become very popular.
For those unfamiliar with the Buckmaster 185, here's the miniaturized version, the Buck 639 Fieldmate.
The only differences where that the 185 was longer and had a skeletonized black elastomer grip.
Also, no love for the M9 and OKC-3S Bayonets?

My MKII is kinda rough. Saved it from the trash can at the pawn shop because the boss said it was too decrepit to put in the showcase. Unfortunately, the 1911 I had to buy.

When we shut down the Army Reserve hangar at Navy Dallas our ALSE guy was passing out all kinds of stuff, knives included.

Here is my accumulation of WW2 blades
All good PALs (pun intended) except for the Mark 2 Camillus (3rd from the top)
The PALs were made in Holyoke, MA where my dad was a kid during WW2.

Very Nice. Here is my Ka Bar MK2. Got it at a Militaria Collection Estate Auction. It has a two digit number stamped into the blade and the sheath. Assume it is a rack number? Has anyone else seen one numbered like that?

Rack number would be my guess. Yours appears to be of the first design, with the threaded butt cap (no pin).
