Colt King Cobra Target .22
Gun writer friend sent me this the other day. Looks interesting...
This morning Colt Manufacturing Co. introduced a "Baby Snake", the new King Cobra Target in .22 LR. This stainless steel beauty has a 10-shot cylinder and comes with a 4 or 6" vent-rib barrel that has a 1:16 RH twist rifling. Other features include an adjustable rear sight, elevated fiber-optic front sight and target stocks. Taking budget-priced and easy to find .22 LR ammo, this wheelgun is made to be shot - lots! It will also be a prefect understudy to other Colt "Snake Guns" like the Python or Anaconda. Look for my upcoming article on this exciting new revolver in a future issue of Combat Handguns magazine.

Looks interesting. I like it. I am surprised they didn't name it the "New Diamondback". Might be on my Colt "short list", along with a 4 inch Anaconda. Looks like they are retailing right at 1k.

I have a 6" .22 Diamondback that I really like. I always wanted a 4" to go with it. But prices on those have gotten plumb crazy.
This new King Cobra might just fill the bill.
MSRP is $999.00. Think I'll wait and see what actual street price is gonna be.

Whatever a “Colt guy” is, I’m the opposite, so I dunno know much.
But what’s the idea of giving it the King Cobra name with the vented rib barrel? Isn’t that just completely wrong?
Rimfire Python or Diamondback or maybe a totally new moniker but King Cobra seems like a total mistake.

This has been posted about several times since the announcement, I have my dealer on the hunt for one, so you other guys need to back off.
On those other threads it has been mentioned that Colt didn't renew the copyright protection for Diamondback, and now that it's the name for another, unrelated, company, they can't use it. Too bad, but I can understand it - they had much bigger problems at the time.

Looks nice but I will leave you other fine gentlemen to chase after Colts.
Perfectly understandable that would want to use an existing/historic name for a gun, but they haven’t run out of other snake names to use. “Water Moccasin” may not fit on the barrel and they would get no end of jokes with “Asp”.

To put a little 'nostalgia' in this line, a distributor should request a few hundred with a 4" vent rib in .38 spl to match the .22LR.

I have been told that Colt no longer has the rights to the name "Diamondback".

Exactly, I have zero use or interest in a .22, but I would line up for this.
It'll be very collectable one day, as all the other large frame .22's are and maybe more desirable because it's a snake gun.

I have a 17-4 6" that was my Dad's. Finest single action trigger out of the box I have ever encountered. I shot Bullseye with it before I got a 41. I still have it, so I'm good.
If I wanted a 4" .22 that bad, I'd look for a vintage 18.
I like Colt AR's and 1911's, and I have some of them.
I'm just not a fan of their revolvers, past or present.
So, to each his own.

I didn't see it on Colt's website. Is it in production yet?

I kinda wonder why the rib isn't the same as the Python one? I don't know enough about Colts to know if the Diamondback rib is the same as the Python or different.

Collectable...maybe
The gun appears to be very heavy for caliber. At least the cylinder has 10 holes to reduce weight. Those of us who shoot steel with S&W 617s aren't likely to switch to the Cobra.
Colt is cashing in on the "cachet"of the Colt name. Good for them, at least new owners are trying to make money which is a necessity to stay in business.

Agree, if this had been the "EAA Windicator Rimfire Target Stainless" they'd sell about zero of them @ $1k.

It’s a nice looking gun, could see owning one. I have enough .22 S&W’s revolvers that I don’t shoot. If someone buys one, show us the targets. Larry
