Taurus Executive Grade Revolver

If they can put out a better product and keep their price advantage, they might sell lots. If they improve the product and raise prices to S&W or Ruger prices, they are going to have to prove that they're worth it.
If they are building them in the US and giving people good jobs, I hope they succeed.

For comparison, all fixed site, 38 Special +p and list price:

Colt Cobra - $699 (rubber grips, 6 shot, 2" barrel)
S&W Model 60 - $795 (rubber grips, 5 shot, 2.125" barrel)
Taurus 856 Exec - $689 (wood grips, 6 shot, pelican case, 3" barrel)

Is the Executive series the Taurus version of the old S&W Performance Center revolvers? If yes, definitely worth looking at.

I'm tickled to see anyone making revolvers. The only one of their products that ever graced our house is my wife's M85, which performed flawlessly and compared well to a S&W M36, so I have no doubt the company CAN make a quality product at a competitive price.

On the other hand for $200+ over the base 856, I would expect at least Performance Center type attention inside. Seems a little much for a hard side case alone.

I said it about the Python and I'll say it about Taurus: the grips look like the plywood my dad used to build our kitchen cabinets because we couldn't afford pine. I would immediately swap them for something that might once have been a tree, or else for rubber, which adds at least $30-$45 dollars to the price and makes the Colt the better deal by far.

The regular 856 Defender is a fine 3" revolver selling for about $350 or less. They may not be as aesthetically refined as other brands, but they're solid six shooters. Way better than what Charter is putting out these days.

I have an Interarms imported Rossi M88 (pre merger with Taurus) that works fine, so Rossi/Taurus can theoretically make an accurate, reliable properly functioning revolver.

Can they do it consistently? Maybe.

As for their new Executive Grade revolver, given that it’s an SP101 sized revolver and chambered for .38 +P, I’d prefer a round butt grip but that should be an easy aftermarket fix if it’s an upscale 856. I also wouldn’t mind a spur hammer option.

On a positive note, it’s 2 oz lighter than an SP101 but offers six shots, which is a plus.

I've had several Taurus handguns and like them.

I've soured on the brand since they've stopped honoring the warranty on used guns.

Nice to read the common sense replies. Mine will arrive at the LGS Monday. Found it at $580 but a bit of searching should find it lower.

These last few years, my lunch money has been going to the manufacturers that are out there trying and putting some effort into their product lines. New models (Python, Cobra), sought after calibers (327 anyone?) and options. Taurus, like Colt, isn't afraid to step outside of the box and actually deliver a new revolver line.

Old age has made me much more likely to buy fun shooters than add more safe queens.

Have fun!

That's a very nice looking gun. It will be interesting to read reviews. I would have wanted adjustable sights on it.

No matter what Taurus does, it would change the ugly chopped off barrel look they went to.
