Knives from Ukraine
There are a lot of nearly anonymous knife manufacturers that advertise on the net, a lot from China, quite a few from Pakistan, some others from various places around the world. Most of them are selling junk: dubious steel, stolen intellectual property, or tourist knives, originally meant to hang on the wall, but offered as working tools. Sometimes, they are obviously overpriced, sometimes priced so low they couldn’t possibly be any good.
BPS is one of those makes that has bumbled along for years at the lower edge of my awareness. Of course, I wasn’t aware at the time that they were made in Ukraine until another Bladeforums member got a tip himself and passed it on.
Ukraine, of course, has cachet these days. The knives looked pretty nice, ash or oak handles, mostly full tang, 1066 carbon steel, and mostly Scandi grinds. I ordered one from the manufacturer, with the expectation of delayed delivery due to the war. I am still waiting for that one.
Then I found the same knives on Amazon at 15-20% cheaper, with free two-day delivery. So I went for the instant gratification and ordered a couple more. They are pretty nice, with decent leather sheaths, well put together and finished, and some of the slickest paper slicers I have ever taken new out of a box.
The bigger onewith the dangler sheath was $35, the smaller $23. ( i know they look almost the same size, an effect of my phone camera’s lens).

You can tell they are after the Bushcrafting—Mora market. They look very nice and like fancy Mora’s.

They have at least one flat grind model, which is the one I ordered from the factory. Most of them are Scandis, which they describe variously as bushcraft, camping or hunting knives. There is one that has a profile almost identical to a Mora Companion. The sheath of my larger one is a perfect fit for my Becker BK16.
