I bought this because the Knoxx adjustable, recoil absorbing stock fits everyone in the family. Masaad Ayoob suggests a 20 ga. for home defense because of faster recovery for second shots. It throws 3/4ths the lead with a lot less recoil, making it usable for the wife or kids if the have the need to use it.

Nothing wrong with that. I use a 20GA 870 Wingmaster with an 18.5" barrel for HD shotgun duties. It's loaded with Federal #4 Buck. what's in yours?

Nice choice. The Knoxx stock really makes a difference. I had a 12ga Winchester and the Knoxx made even heavy slugs pleasant.

Knoxx stocks come both with, and without, a proprietary recoil reduction mechanism. Those without it don't seem to make that much difference, though they do allow one to adjust the LOP so as to facilitate storage or better fit an individual (and also work well if you're wearing armor).
A 20 gauge actually has a recoil impulse that some shooters find sharper and more bothersome than a 12. Shrug. You might want to look for an M4 clone. While you'll want hearing protection if firing them indoors, recoil is such at even a ten year old should be able to handle one without problems.

You made a good choice IMO.Just find a good defensive load and be sure to pattern it.I really like the extra shells it will hold,I wish mine had that.Mine does have the knox stock with the spring runnimg from the butt to the bottom of the trigger guard. It is a 12 gauge and the recoil is not bad...Mike
