With some vintage leather for the Colt Model M in 380 too.

Until a few years ago the only automatic that I still had was a 1911-A1 Remington Rand s/n puts it at 1944. Then one day a 1903 Colt .32 Pocket Model showed up at the LGS. Nice shape but with just enough wear so as not be devalued by shooting it. I bought a set of dies, 500 FMJ 72gr bullets , 500 pcs PPU brass and a lb of W231. As soon as I finish the run of ..32 S&W Long and .38 S&W I will get going on the .32 Auto. Just like their revolvers the workmanship on these old Colts is fantastic.
I like the walnut grips on your 1908. Mine has the hard rubber grips as does my Colt PP. But they are in great shape on both guns.
Very nice pairs of old Colts. My neighbor’s grandfather who was born in 1890 had 1911 just like yours just not in anywhere near as nice condition. The gun is still in the same family. What a piece of history.

1903 Colt

Love that 1903 Colt. Mine is s/n: 174879. S/n puts mine at 1915. It’s in just about the same condition as yours. TCM has been commemorating the 100 th anniversary of Warner Brothers by running WB movies all month. They have been showing the classic stuff like White Heat and Key Largo. The movie studios had so much of this stuff in their property departments. It seems to be a coin toss as to whether Bogart or Cagney are going to pull a Det. Special or a Colt Automatic out of the overcoat pocket.

My cut down 1917 Colt .45 ACP is pretty accurate for an ancient gun with such a short barrel. I mean for self defense purposes. When I shot it single action from a rest at 15 yards aiming dead center it shot low as you can see on this target. I then shot it double action two hand standing but aimed higher and to the right. That put the shots in the black. I was pretty pleased with that. The action on this gun is smoother than my old Python.

I have its cousin from Smith & Wesson. Mine was one of the Model 1917s that went to Brazil in 1937. I hope it was a salvage of a worn out gun.

So yes, gangs are still with us, but these Motor Bandits were somewhat unique, and during a unique time.

You could say the same thing for James-Younger gang, I reckon!
