Remington 1903A3 rear sight screw

While shooting in a Bolt Action Military Rifle match today, I went to make an elevation change and the tiny little screw that anchors the elevation ramp snapped into 2 pieces.

Does anyone either have a replacement screw, know the correct pitch, or know someone that has a replacement screw?

Found many complete sights, just need the set screw......

I used to own a 1903A3 and used to shoot it in the occasional DCM match for something different.

I never saw a need to use that screw for a sight adjustment. It should be adjusted so that there is just enough tension to allow the sight to slide up and down but not move on its own under recoil.

It was never meant to be tightened and loosened on a regular basis.

Take the broken tip and compare it to other screws to determine pitch if you don't have a gauge. Might be a common thread that you could easily find a replacement for.

I did take the aperture part to the local ACE Hardware store to check for a screw in the gunsmithing screw section to no avail......

It looks like Numrich sells the screw for $3.22 ( part "E" ):

Unfortunately, shipping will probably set you back over twice the part cost. You may want to see if you could use a few other goodies to help spread out the shipping cost.

Try Gun Parts Corp (Numrich). Just bought an extractor for a Browning Medalist from them. Springfield 1903A3 Parts List | Numrich

For a temporary fix. Go the a real hardware store, in the small screw index section they will have an index of Nylon screws. as long as you have close to the right diameter, the Nylon threads will conform to the correct pitch. Should cost around 75 cents! (I keep a small pill bottle of nylon screws and nuts for just this type of repairs)
