As a collector and avid shooter of what I collect, my interests often are highlighted by what I call "targets of opportunity" in the gun market. One such opportunity occurred this past week on GB. A chance to bid on a Marlin model 1889 rifle in caliber 32-20, my favorite caliber anything! I know! It was not a Winchester. It was a "Hail Mary" bid and it paid off. It is an antique first year of production, 1889. It is in excellent condition with outstanding grooves and lands in the bore. It functions flawlessly for a 134 year old gun. It is number 2 in the photos. Number one is an 1889 in caliber 38-40 manufactured in 1894. It too is in outstanding operational condition with a shorten magazine tube that was done many hunting seasons ago. Lastly, number 3 is the Spanish, El Tiger in 44-40 from the 1920s. It was a police gun that took part in the Spanish Civil War. All were targets of opportunity!

I had two of those type moments on GB with leverguns. Both happened before I got myself out of CC debt and I just could not make myself hit the Buy It Now button. One was a Winchester 1892 from the early 1900's(pre-teen) in .32-20 with a BIN of $795. This was back about 15 years ago. The second was one of those El Tigre lever actions in .44-40 with a BIN of $395. This was also about 15 years ago. The one I really wish I had grabbed was the El Tigre.
