I always say my favorite firearm is the last one I shot. Well maybe that shouldn't be the only criteria, but it seems to work that way for me. On Friday I took the Glock 42 out and shot about 60 rounds through it; all at 15 yards. The ammo was Brazilian Magtech 95 grain FMJ and a few of my reloads with Hornady's 100 grain FMJ ahead of 3.3 grains Winchester 231. I had zero malfunctions during the session. What's with the blue tarp? I don't know about you guys, but if I don't throw the tarp down to assist in recovering spent .380 cases, I will never find them mixed in with all that rock and 9x19 spent casings. This just makes it easier.

The Glock 42 is turning into my favorite summer gun.In the pocket as a backup to larger gun on hip.Or lately because of daily medical treatments. It is carried IWB since I wear gym shorts and tshirt to clinic everyday.I do carry a small backpack with a larger gun and wallet and keys.

I had one of the early ones and liked it- ran 100% and was enjoyable to shoot. Only reason I got rid of it was I’m not a .380 guy (I ccw a Glock 43).

Sorry guys… to gain 2 rounds of 380 by pocket carrying a striker-fired gun, I’ll stick with my airweight and practice reloads.

But diversity is strength! :)

The Airweight is always a good choice, and I don't always carry a striker fired pistol. My Model 638 gets equal carry time.

Do you "pocket carry" the 42 with or without a holster? One in the chamber?

Soooo much misunderstanding after all this time about the "striker fired" Glocks. They are perfectly safe to pocket carry as the striker is only partially cocked and blocked from moving forward unless the trigger is pulled.

No misunderstanding here. No need for quotes as they *are* striker fired. Striker is cocked roughly 65% by my measure. Firing pin safety will save you so long as it’s not stuck or has a broken spring. And you forgot to mention the shelf that prevents the cruciform from dropping and releasing the striker unless it’s moved back (by trigger press).

So long as nothing can possibly move the trigger, you’re golden. If something does, not so much.

Same thing can happen with a J frame, of course, but it takes roughly twice the pressure.

I pocket carry a couple of my Glocks (G33 and G42, depending some variables). Nothing else goes in that pocket, of course, but I am also rigid about using a good pocket holster (Kramer for the 33, Mica for the 42). After my bypass in November, I carried the 42 in various attire for a few months as an old man gun. It is light enough I can use it in athletic gear. Perfect? Nope. FAR better than nothing? Yup.

Younger folks may not remember the early days of the first days of the first Glock, the model 17. There was a lot of fear about it being a striker fired gun without an external safety at all!!! Wow. The younger folks probably don't member when Glock took chamber loaded model 17s up in helicopters and threw them out onto concrete parking lots and NONE ever "went off". So much for one "going off" in your pocket.

I pocket carry my glock 42 in a Mika pocket holster. I also pocket carry a 638 in a Mika holster.I carried the 638 either on ankle or pocket for over 20yrs in the sheriff dept. Back problems stopped ankle carry. This summer due to heat and medical problems I am dressing much lighter than I used to.The glock 42 carries lighter and easier than my beloved j frames.

It’s more the light trigger pull, I think. Don’t really like Cond 1 in a 1911 either. I understand the mechanics of each, and in an actual encounter would be ok with them. But for years worth of daily carry and handling I prefer the extra safety margin of a heavy DA trigger.

People could have carried around their SA Colts with all 6 loaded and on half-cock. That should be safe. But on balance, for average use, hammer down on an empty hole seems safer.

Not preaching, I have no problem with those who do otherwise. We all make our own choices based on our own views.

UH, "Hammer down on an empty hole..." BETTER be SAFER!

Cheers!

P.S. Still trying to figure how that one can EVER "go off"! But few single action revolvers are often pocket carried...

I tried really hard to like the G42 but could never get mine to feed right, so I traded it and got a G43 instead. I'm much happier with the G43. It serves a very niche role in my carry rotation, however, and rarely ever sees duty.
