Last December, I was in Salzburg, Austria, and happened upon Richard Kappeler's Messermacher (Knife Maker) shop, just down the street from Mozart's house.

Herr Kappeler was very gracious in welcoming a foreign visitor to his shop, and his knives are beautiful. His product range is very diverse, offering something for everyone, in a variety of price ranges.

I didn't buy anything that evening, but I will be in Salzburg again in late October, and will most likely add one of his creations to my modest collection.

His website is linked below. It's very informative, with lots of information on its various pages...enjoy! :)

Very nice! Beautiful design and craftsmanship.

I wonder if the notecard (in English) suggests their clientele is primarily tourist based?
Actually, I’m kind of more impressed with the architecture, stonework, and shop fixtures, especially that nice live-edge wood display table!
You just don’t see nice retail places like that state-side much anymore.

Well, Salzburg is very touristy, and the area where that shop is located is chock-full of various stores selling everything from candy to jewelry to souvenirs. Also, English has become almost a universal language in many places in Europe. People who don't speak each others' language will speak to each other in English.

I wish I'd taken more photos in the shop...it was just beautiful. Perhaps I will on my next trip... :)

Salzburg is very scenic but it's decades since I was there last. Does Beemerguy mean that you love BMWs? You can take a tour of the BMW plant and museum in Munich, just a couple of hours away.

GUIDED TOURS IN BMW WELT MUNICH, BMW MUSEUM and BMW GROUP PLANT

Back when the internet was first created, I adopted the screen name Beemerguy and have used it ever since. While it refers mainly to my BMW motorcycles, I also have a BMW M2 coupe. (My daily driver is a VW Golf R...yes, I like German machines.)

I've been to the BMW Museum three times over the years, and visited as well the Porsche and Mercedes museums in Stuttgart. :)

I absolutely loved Salzburg when I was there about 40 years ago...
man, where has the time flown? That shop looks beautiful, and
I can only imagine how nice it is now. Beautiful knives, too!
Thank you for sharing! Brings back great memories!
John
