Over a multi-year stretch I pieced me together a Mk12 Mod1 clone. I bought what I could afford when I could afford it. Its a pretty decent clone. Granted there were a few authentic components that have either been out of my reach or I was unable to locate or both, like the correct scope.
Now when I say correct I am basing it on the guy whos knowledge of the Mk12 I trust the utmost, Lamont LeClaire. He was deeply involved with the rifle and deployed with it many times after it was put into service. In fact I bought a number of the components from him and count myself lucky to have had Mr. LeClaire assemble my rifle for me, who would know better? One thing I didnt get from Monty was the A. R. M.S. scope rings though but I did get the modern day equivalent as the new ones have a different locking arm and the body surrounding it is made a little different but.... they are supposed to be able to be removed from the rifle and returned and maintain the zero and they did.
Today I did something Ive never done with my Mk12, I changed something about it, I mounted a different scope and mount on it. Since the scope it has worn since its birth is only a 10X I wanted to see if I could shoot a better group with a little more magnification, and I did, a little but the gun just didnt look like MY Mk12 and I didnt do enough better to justify permanently altering it into a NOT-A-Mk12 so I pulled the original scope back out of the case, mounted it back on in the original pic slots, flipped the locking levers and shot a group of 23.7gr of 8208xbr and a 77gr SMK in LC19 brass, the guns only alternate load other than the Mk262 from BHA and the thing shot to within about .5 moa of where it always shoots with either of those loads. It hit about a half and inch left but ele was spot on.
So, its nice when things work as advertised, isnt it? I was very pleased and surprised because I really struggled a bit with removing that scope/ring combo because its been on there since day 1. I doubt it comes back off again.
