If you've followed my posts over my length here, you may have noticed that I have a fondness for older Remington bolt action .22's.

I finally picked up something this morning that I have wanted ever since I could remember my uncle having...

Now, this isn't one of the more scarce Routledge bore (spelling?) models...which I passed up earlier this year, but one of the standard smooth bore 510's.
Even in standard smooth bore, these little rifles aren't seen every day. These rifles aren't "rare" in the sense gunshops label them as such to make an extra buck...just not common. I just finally found someone that saw the same value in it that I do.

I'm going to go to the range this weekend (tomorrow hopefully) and see if I can pattern this thing with some Winchester, CCI, Federal and some 1960's vintage Remington crimped shot.

The garden rabbits are going to have one hopping time this year!

Now, who was it that had the pictures of the high-grade special-order Winchester 61 smooth bore on here?!? I'd settle for a Remington pump in smoothbore.

I know...don't tell me...
This thread is worthless without pictures!
They'll be coming tomorrow.

BTW, does the overused term "rare" irk anyone besides me? The term rare should only be used with things that are such...like wheel lock firearms and suits of armor worn by Conquistadors. I've just dropped the use of the trite term completely.

Kind of a rare interest ...smooth bore .22's!

I have a Remington 512, that I have used .22 shot shells for rats and mice, pigeons, starlings and sparrows, in the barn. Sort of works, if up close and lucky. For the pigeons waiting till they fly outside and using the usual shotgun works much better.

Keep us informed as to how the .22 smooth bores work on rabbits? Maybe have to get into another (dare I say rare in the U.S.?) variety of weapons, Rook guns!

I'm still looking for a 9mm Flobert, from a person that sees the same value in it I do.
One of the Italian firms still makes single shots in this and in .310, but no one imports them.

I keep up with the Bernadelli semi-autos and Winchester 36's that sometimes appear on the gun auctions, but most are overpriced. I want a practical shooter. It goes back to that "value" thing I have.

Fiocchi still imports 9mm Flobert ammunition.

Why don't you build yourself a 9mm Fobert out of a rusted out Stevens Favorite?

Rook guns!
I have one of the small frame BSA Martinis that has been rechambered to .32-20. It's a good little shooter.

One of the best shooting days I ever had was with a good friend of mine who has since passed away. He had a Remington smoothbore pump. The field we regularly dove hunted in was infested with dragon flies. One day we took that pump and a brick of shotshells to that field, and during mid day when the doves werent flying we took turn shooting DF's. We had a BLAST.

AG, Bullseye in Lawrenceville, GA had a Remington smoothbore pump .22 last week on their rifle rack. I did not look at it closely, couldn't tell you the price, but the shop is open until 9:00 p.m. tonight if you see this message.
